Maurice Street shooting investigated
Monroe police are investigating shots fired on Maurice Street Thursday that left a man injured.
Around 9:45 p.m. Monroe Police responded to a shots fired call in the 100 block of Maurice Street.
When officers arrived, Williams Bivens, Jr., 24, was found to have been shot twice in the leg and was taken to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, Sgt. Mike Smith of the Monroe Police Department said.
He was not certain Friday afternoon of Bivens' condition but at the time of the shooting Thursday, his injuries were not life threatening, Smith said.
According to Bivens, he was out on the street and saw a vehicle and thought he recognized the person inside. When he approached it, he realized it wasn't whom he thought. The person inside the vehicle then fired a gun at him and he ran away and the vehicle left the scene, Smith said.
Police are still investigating the incident.
"We have an extremely vague description of the vehicle, we had one witness but they couldn't describe the vehicle or person to us," Smith said.
