Who is the best Elvis impersonator?
Put on your blue suede shoes and tune up your singing voice, there is about to be a whole lot of Elvis at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Fans will have a chance to pay homage to The King of Rock ‘n’ Roll at the Food Lion AutoFair, April 4-7, by participating in an official preliminary round of the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest sanctioned by Elvis Presley Enterprises.
The winner of this preliminary round will go on to compete against other semifinalists from around the globe in the overall Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest held during Elvis Week at Graceland in Memphis, Tenn.
Fans who sign up to participate in this three-day regional contest, held at the world’s largest automotive extravaganza, will be evaluated on their vocal talent, appearance, stage presence and overall performance. The contest performances will be held on the stage at the Showcase Pavilion, near the Food Lion AutoFair display featuring Elvis’ 1956 Lincoln Continental Mark II and artifacts from the king’s 1968 film “Speedway,” which was partially filmed at Charlotte Motor Speedway.
Preliminary rounds will be held Thursday, April 4, at 5 p.m. in The Speedway Club. Semifinals will take place Friday, April 5, and Saturday, April 6, on the stage at the Showcase Pavilion, with finals featuring the top five contestants at 3 p.m. on Saturday.
The winner of the regional contest will be named Charlotte Motor Speedway’s Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist, plus earn a spot in the semifinals of the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest in Memphis during Elvis Week in August. In addition, they’ll get a one-of-a-kind trophy, $2,000 in prize money, a chance to perform on the final day of the Food Lion AutoFair and dinner for two in The Speedway Club, where they will also give a performance for special guests. Second and third place in the contest will each receive a prize pack.
Contestants can find more information and register online at www.charlottemotorspeedway.com/elvis. Fans can watch the contest by purchasing a ticket to the Food Lion AutoFair. Tickets are $10 for adults and free for children 13 and under.
