The Cuthbertson Middle School PTSO and school staff are hosting a “Talent Show” this coming Friday evening, December 7th at 7 p.m. This sounds good, because you know with a pupil population the size of CMS, there’s got to be lots of talent. From what I hear, the admission is $5 per person. It sounds good to me!]

Have you heard about the North Carolina Master Gardener Program? It is a volunteer program designed to train volunteers to help other people in their communities with horticulture. This program is divided into two parts: instruction and service. In the classroom, participants receive over 40 hours of practical horticultural training and receive a comprehensive textbook. The practical training is designed to increase confidence in your gardening knowledge and horticultural skills, as well as enable one to assist the public with questions and problems involved with gardening. Once enrolled in the program, the Master Garden intern donates at least 40 hours of service to the citizens of Union County. This multiplies the capabilities of the Union County Extension Agent. If you have the desire, commitment and time to learn and want to put your knowledge and skills to work through volunteer service, then apply for admission to the Master Gardener program. Contact Jeff Rieves at 740-283-3741, or visit http://www.ces.ncsu.edu/depts/hort/consumer/masgar/

Do you know about Katie Greene, daughter of Liz and Dean Greene? Katie founded “Katie’s Kidz,” an organization that collects donations to enable Katie to present gifts at the holidays to children who are in the hospital with serious illnesses. Last year, Katie raised $22,350, and delivered 7,000 gifts to eleven hospitals in North and South Carolina, including eight major children’s hospitals. This year, Katie lost her grandfather, whom she called “Paw Paw,” and she is dedicating her 2012 campaign to him. “Paw Paw” always gave Katie the support only a grandfather can give in such an endeavor as this. Because “Paw Paw” was sickly for a few weeks, and it put Katie behind her normal schedule she finds herself a bit behind in the funding. Katie needs donations more than ever this year. If you are interested in donating, send it to: Katie’s Kidz, P.O. Box 436, Waxhaw, NC 28173.
