Lush and green, spring is my favorite time of year

Most of the weather sure has been nice — comfortable, and a little rain, which we needed. The lawns look so green since that rain storm. The trees look so beautiful. And you know what else I like about this time of the year? The livestock grazing, and lazing about. I love to watch them on the hot days when they all head for the shade of the trees. They’re so cute.

I noticed that a new farm stand is being built on Providence Road, just south of the Weddington/Waxhaw border. I believe it is called Providence Fresh Market.

First Friday is coming up this week offering you all kinds of fun, music, discounts, and just a good time for the entire family. Make sure you stop at the Reading Room to see all the wonderful used books they have to buy very inexpensively. Restaurants run specials, and everyone downtown on First Friday has a good time. Try it, you’ll like it.

Remember, Saturday, May 4th at 2 p.m. is the Waxhaw Woman’s Club Fashion Show. Some of the models you may know, and would like to see then show the great fashions from Macy’s. They are: Judy Simpson Cook, Nazely Coonan, Gayle Kallenbach, Nora Kinard, Debbie Kneigge, Betty Linker, Shirley Munnerly, Petra Reiners, Carrie Jean Rogers, Carolyn Starnes and Melva Lea Stewart. Delicious refreshments will be served, and raffle tickets are for sale with wonderful prizes to win. Hope to see you there.

At this writing, twenty million dollars have been raised for the victims of the Boston massacre. It will certainly go to a good cause. Can you imagine all the therapy the amputees will need. I don’t know if you happened to have seen the Marine amputee visiting the Boston victims. What a wonderful person to go there and console and encourage them.

Now, hopefully there will be a fundraiser for the victims of the Texas fertilizer plant fire. They will need lots of help, too. Many of the victims there have lost everything they own. Some of them have lost their family members. At this point, I have heard nothing about such an endeavor. If you do, please email me @ dmoloneywxw@gmail.com

Here’s a good riddle for you. Why are balloons like vagrants? Because they have no visible means of support. Another, Why is London Bridge like merit? Because it is so very often passed over. A very dear person gave me a “Little Blue Book No. 1175 Amusing and Popular Riddles” for my birthday. I cannot tell you how much fun I have had with it. Another favorite gift is a hand-knitted pair of socks, which are absolutely beautiful, created by my niece, Kristin, in Florida.

Last Friday evening Pat Kitto and I went into Charlotte to “Saddle Up,” the new Country Western Club which features country line dancing. We had lots of fun visiting a beautiful venue, watching everyone having a great time dancing. We will go back again.

Have a good week, remember to take time to smell the roses, schedule your mammo, but most important, never forget how much “fina” it is to wake up in Carolina.
