According to our farm calendar, the week of August 3rd is when we sow beet seeds for fall and winter harvests. Beets seeds will germinate quickly in the warm summer soil and respond well to the cooling temperatures of late summer into fall.
To say I like bacon is a lot like saying, “The sky is blue. Water is wet. Fire is hot.” Of course I like bacon. Who doesn’t like bacon?
The 4th of July Parade was wonderful. It was fun!
Each season we have the opportunity to experience the fresh and vibrant flavors of locally grown items that we only have available in dried, frozen or canned form or that has travelled across countries and continents in the off-season. Now is the time of year to discover the true taste of garlic that is fresh.
And here we come full circle, fellow foodies. I began writing this column one year ago this week. My goals: To learn more about cooking and to share my education with you.
