Arriving at St. Paul's Episcopal Church, the church representing the eighth station of the cross, Mark Kocik, of Marshville, pauses in the archway for a scripture reading prior to entering the sanctuary for the church's traditional Good Friday service at noon. Several dozen Christians met at the First Presbyterian Church earlier to participate in the eight stations of the cross ceremony, carrying the cross to eight locations in the downtown area, pausing for prayer and scripture at each station.

As temperatures once again climbed into the 60's recently, Frankie Richard, of Albemarle, steals a few rays of sunshine between customers last Tuesday afternoon at Union Thrift Store on Charlotte Avenue. Richard oversees the thrift shop for owner, Rick Roberts, four days a week.

Zach Wallace, of Wingate, enjoyed the t-shirt and shorts weather earlier in the week as he walked Major, his seven-month-old Weimaraner along Pearl Circle in Wingate. Wallace, a Wingate University graduate, is a first-year law student the Charlotte School of Law.

Crystal Oliver, manager of Good Steward Ministries Thrift Store in Marshville preps a pair of black and pink leather heels for display in the window of the store on Main Street Saturday afternoon. Good Steward Ministries, a non-profit entity with a retail store in Marshville and Monroe, accepts and resells donated items to benefit numerous local charities and community assistance programs.

Misty Miracco, marketing manager for Logan's Roadhouse restaurant, autographs manager Jimmy Rainey's freshly shaved head after the restaurant's employees hosted a 'head shaving and support' party for him. After a diagnosis of Hodgkin's Lymphoma in November, Rainey, scheduled for his third chemo treatment on Friday, didn't want to lose his hair gradually due to the treatments. His employees wanted to emphasize their support for Rainey.
