Murder in Indian Trail
UPDATE: Detectives have identified the victim as Christopher Reid Brown, 27, of 5002 West Street, Indian Trail.
Sunday - 3:20 a.m.
Except for the glow of headlights and a few floodlights used by law enforcement at the intersection of First Street and West Street in Indian Trail, the neighborhood was dark and quiet. Yellow crime scene tape was tied across First Street to mark and protect the scene. Investigators combed the immediate area with flashlights while crime scene personnel interviewed witnesses. A white sheet covered the body of the county's most recent homicide, a young, white male.
Little information was released at the scene by sheriff's office officials. The following news release was issued by Chief Deputy Ben Bailey, Jr, just before 3 a.m.:
The Union County Sheriff's Office is investigating an apparent homicide that occurred this evening at 5002 West St. in Indian Trail. Union County 911 received a report of a shooting at that address at about 11:59 Saturday night. Responding officers arrived and found a male victim lying in the front yard of the residence, deceased from apparent gunshot wounds.
Sheriffs investigators and the District Attorney's office remained on the scene through this morning processing the crime scene. Detectives would not comment on a possible motive for the shooting, nor would they identify the victim at this time, pending notification of family members.
Anyone with any information regarding this crime is asked to call Union County Crime Stoppers at 704-283-5600. You do not have to give your name, and may be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 for information that leads to an arrest.
Additional information will be forthcoming as the investigation progresses.
Early in the investigation, according to radio broadcasts, police were looking for two white males in a black or dark colored Honda Civic. It is not known if authorities are still seeking same.
