Former city manager lands new job
The former Monroe city manager was hired as the new planning director for the town of Cornelius.
Wayne Herron resigned as city manager in July after a threatening phone call to the Monroe police chief was traced back to his home. Police did not charge Herron's wife with communicating threats, but a majority of city council members asked Herron to resign as a result.
Herron will take over as the town's new planning director, Cornelius Town Manager Anthony Roberts confirmed by email Friday. He will supervise four employees.
Roberts did not know Herron's resignation resulted from his wife's phone call.
"Nope," Roberts responded. "Is that what you were told?"
Cornelius is a north Mecklenburg County town with a population of less than 25,000.
Herron begins work Jan. 2, 2013.
