Man shot during home invasion
A man was shot early Sunday morning when he tried to fight off three armed men who broke into his home, according to the Monroe Police.
At about 2:30 a.m., three young black men broke into 876 E. Sunset Drive, police reports state. Teodoro Hernandez Huerta, 33, was sleeping on the couch. He recently had surgery.
“His family was upstairs, so he tried to fight the guys off,” Monroe PD Capt. Beth Greene said. “They shot him twice. Once in the stomach and once just grazing his hand.”
The three men ran out the back door. Police are still searching for the suspects, Greene said.
Huerta was taken to Carolinas Medical Center — Main for surgery.
The suspects are black males in the late teens or early 20s, Greene said. Police ask that anyone with information about the home invasion call Crime Stoppers at 704-283-5600.
