Man faces additional rape charges
After being arrested on Dec. 22 on rape and other sex abuse related charges with a minor, a Monroe man now faces additional charges.
Fidel Rodriguez, 47, was initially charged with 11 counts of first degree statutory rape, one count of attempted first degree statutory rape and four charges of first degree sex offense with a child, Detective Rick Garcia of the Monroe Police Department, said.
Rodriguez now faces 21 counts of first-degree sex offense with child, two charges of first degree statutory rape, 20 counts of indecent liberties with a child and 10 counts of disseminating obscene material to a minor, Garcia said.
The abuse, which involved a 12-year-old girl, was discovered after a passerby reported a suspicious vehicle parked at a vacant store.
“When they reported a suspicious vehicle the officer went over there and checked it out and noticed in the vehicle there were blankets on top of a person. He (the officer) opened the door and asked him to step outside, that’s when they found out it that it was an adult with a juvenile,” Garcia said.
According to our news partners WSOC-TV, Rodriguez confessed to the sexual abuse in interviews with detectives and expressed remorse over his actions and said that he couldn’t remember how many times he had sex with the victim but began showing her pornography on his phone over the summer and the relationship regressed from there.
Rodriguez’s wife often took care of the child, Garcia said.
According to the Union County Sheriff’s Office website, as of Wednesday afternoon, Rodriguez was in the Union County Jail under a $1,500,000 bond.
