Police searching for theft suspect
A theft at Top Dollar Jewelry & Loan in Monroe on Feb. 13, has led to a search for the suspect.
At 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 13, a man entered the store, which is at 2114 Suite-B W. Roosevelt Boulevard in Monroe.
The man asked to see several items of jewelry and then snatched several gold necklaces from the display counter before running out of the store. The suspect fled the scene on foot and then got into a black Mercedes that was parked on Secrest Shortcut Road. The vehicle left the scene traveling towards U.S. 74, according to a statement from the Monroe Police Department.
“I’m as mad at myself as I’m mad at the person who did it,” David Waugh, the owner of Top Dollar Jewelry & Loan, said.
It was a lax moment for him when the theft occurred. No one was hurt in the incident and it was the second time in 20 years that something like that has happened at the store, Waugh said.
The suspect in the theft is described as a black man about 5 feet, eight inches tall, who weighs 170 pounds and is in his early 20s. He was wearing a green sweater, green toboggan and blue jeans at the time of the theft. He is said to have had a mustache and goatee. The vehicle the suspect left in is described as a 2004 Mercedes Benz with a North Carolina license plate that reads BCB-8116, according to the Monroe Police Department statement.
