A 6-year-old suffered minor injuries while residents of 4624 John Craig Road, Waxhaw, lost their home to fire Friday morning.

No one else was injured in the fire and the 6-year-old was taken to Carolinas Medical Center-Waxhaw for treatment afterwards.

The fire, which started a little after 4:30 a.m., took about 30 minutes to put out and the house was a total loss, Chief Rob Fitzgerald of the Waxhaw Volunteer Fire Department, said.

"There were six people living in the house," Deputy Fire Marshal Jon Williams, said.

Waxhaw and Jackson fire departments were called out to the fire while Mineral Springs, Wesley Chapel, Providence and Griffith Road fire departments were called in for mutual aid, Williams said.

"The house was well involved when firefighters arrived," he said.

All six of the home's residents were home at the time of the fire, which is being investigated by the Union County Fire Marshal's Office. The cause of the fire and where it started in the house has not yet been determined, he said.
