Mexican consulate holds service hours

Carlos Flores Vizcarra, consul general of Mexico, and others from his office will visit the Union County Agricultural Center Saturday.

The event is expected to run from 9 a.m.- 5 p.m.

This is the second year the Mexican consulate has visited the Union County area, Laura Byrd, who is working with the agricultural center to organize the event, said.

Last year a number of local people were able to be served and benefitted from the consulate coming to the area, she said.

The event Saturday will provide attendees with a mobile consulate in Monroe. Approximately 1,000 people are expected to attend, The Consulate General of Mexico is the official diplomatic mission of Mexico to service the Carolinas and provides numerous services to Mexican Nationals living in both North and South Carolina. The services it provides include official Mexican documentation, legal assistance, educational orientation, repatriation of human remains and others. Once a month the consulate general of Mexico travels to a different community in order to provide these services, according to a statement from Vizcarra’s office.

Service’s provided to attendees Saturday will be by appointment. Anyone interested in making an appoitment for services Saturday can call 1-877-639-4835, according to staff at Vizcarra’s office.

The Union County Agricultural Center is at 3230 Presson Road, Monroe.
