Please, have a seat ...
Porter Ridge Middle School intends to sell the seats right out from under its students on Friday in the school's fourth annual 'Chairs for Charity' auction. Art teachers Nicole Crowley and Kirsten Durbin hope to continue the trend of besting the previous year's proceeds, all of which are equally divided between local Relay for Life efforts and Cindy's Hope Chest in Indian Trail. Durbin and Crowley's eighth-grade art students provided the hands-on, creative mastery in decorating the chairs, putting the finishing touches on the wooden artwork this week, only to send them off with new owners Friday evening.
The event, in silent auction format, takes place in the middle schools center foyer from 9 a.m. until 7 p.m. and is open to the public. This year, along with the charity auction, a dessert buffet and bake sale featuring delicasies donated by several local restaurants, bakeries and private businesses will start at 4 p.m., winding up with the chair auction at 7 p.m.
Previous years results:
• 2010: 26 chairs / $2500
• 2011: 37 chairs / $3190
• 2012: 35 chairs / $3300
