Remembering Samantha

Several hundred friends, classmates and supporters gathered to honor and memorialize Samantha Windham on Friday evening with a candlelight vigil at the site of Sunday’s accident that claimed her life on Poplin Road. Windham, a Porter Ridge senior, was returning home after dinner with friends in Monroe when she lost control of her Jeep Cherokee on a sharp curve in the 3000 block of Poplin Road.

An impromptu memorial at the accident site has grown quickly in the week since the fatal accident. Fellow classmates recounted touching stories about their friendship with Windham and brainstormed ideas with her family members, discussing ways the tragedy may be used in positive efforts to keep other teenage drivers aware of the importance of safe driving habits.
