Second phase of Piedmont stadium work OK’d
The Union County Board of Education unanimously approved the second phase of improvements to the stadium at Piedmont High School.
The roughly $1.7 million project will address safety issues and Americans with Disabilities Act compliance.
The construction will replace the bleachers on the home side of the stadium and add handicap ramps and entrances in the bleachers. They will also build ADA compliant bathrooms and a satellite concessions stand. On the visitor side they will replace only bathrooms.
The home side will hold 2,000 spectators and the visitor side will hold 1,000.
Facilities Director John Hughes said after the presentation Tuesday that this should get them “pretty far along” the road for the Piedmont High School stadium.
A few years ago the track surrounding was also renovated.
The construction was identified in the capital improvements plan and there have been safety concerns surrounding the stadium, in particular the bleachers.
