Banco de la Gente robbed Tuesday

A man entered the Banco de la Gente (Bank of the People) at 501 W. Roosevelt Boulevard Tuesday morning brandishing a handgun.

The suspect was described as either a 5-foot-5-inch or 5-foot-6-inch black man wearing all black and a ski mask, Captain Phil Pressley of the Monroe Police Department said.

The man entered the bank around 11:40 a.m. brandishing the handgun and stole an undisclosed amount of money before fleeing on foot.  The Union County Sheriff’s Office was called in to assist with a K-9 track but it was not successful.

As of Tuesday afternoon police were still investigating the robbery and searching for the suspect involved.
