Angel is just that.
This quiet, sweet, shepherd mix is waiting for a family at the Union County Animal Shelter.
She is about a year old, spayed and up-to-date on her shots. She was found as a stray and has been available for adoption for about a week.
She is good with other dogs and initially shy, but very curious and sweet. She will lean into you as you pet her to let you know she is close. She is jumpy at first and, like most dogs, will need some obedience.
Jetta, a sweet and shy mixed breed is waiting at the shelter for an owner. This black-and-white dog is very sweet. She is a bit goofy and strikingly unique with bat-like ears that always make you smile and one white sock.
There is a phenomenon at shelters across the country that has been called “Black Dog Syndrome.” There have not been official studies, but anecdotal evidence shows that it takes longer for black dogs and cats to be adopted, though the reasons are still varied. Some hypotheses include there being more black animals in shelters, that they are harder to photograph or media portrayals of black cats and black dogs.
Dew, a tan-and-white Husky mix, is also still waiting for a family at the shelter. Dew is friendly and likes to play.
Chip, an orange-and-white domestic short-haired cat, is very sweet and curious. He is friendly and craves attention. His purr can be heard from across the room.
He is about a year old, neutered and up-to-date on his shots.
Duke, a cute black-and-white kitten is still available for adoption. Panther, a playful and fun grey tabby, is also waiting for a family. Junebug, a ridiculously cute and sweet calico cat, is also still waiting for the lucky family who will get to own her.
The fee for adopting a dog or a cat is $85. The fee includes first shots, deworming, a heartworm check, rabies shots, spaying or neutering and a one time “well check” vet visit.
The shelter is on 3340 Presson Road in Monroe. The phone number is 704-283-8303. Adoption hours are Monday through Friday from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m.
