Two killed in Wednesday crash

A Wednesday night wreck on Matthews Township Parkway killed two people and left two children injured.

Matthews police are investigating the incident that happened around 9:30 p.m. 

Marie Crook, 62, of 2332 Community Park Drive, Charlotte, died in the wreck along with her daughter, Jennifer Hunt, 37, of Charlotte. Hunt's two children received minor injuries and were treated at an area hospital. Crook was driving south in a Honda CRV and tried to turn left onto Independence Boulevard. She was hit by a Chevrolet Trailblazer heading north on Matthews Township Parkway, driven by Justin Wayne Jones, 28, of 7905 Vinings Oak Lane, Apt. 631, Matthews.

Jones was charged with driving while impaired and reckless driving. Additional charges are pending, according to a statement from the Town of Matthews.

Matthews police were still investigating the wreck as of Friday afternoon.
