Wednesday, Monroe police arrested a man who lured women he met online to areas near his home to steal from them.

Bobby Wallace, 21, has been charged with two counts of larceny from person, two counts of possession of stolen goods, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, Det. Rick Garcia of the Monroe Police Department said.

As of Thursday afternoon, Wallace was in the Union County Jail under a $10,000 bond.

"We had a female come out and she said that she came to Monroe from Charlotte and that she was an escort and that she was providing services to a guy named Mike and she gave us a telephone number," Garcia said.

The woman said she was with Mike and all of a sudden he (Mike) took her purse and ran away. Police began investigating the case and checked into the phone number the woman provided, which they found out belonged to Wallace at 305 Morrow Avenue in Monroe. Officers spoke with Wallace, who gave permission for them to search the residence, he said.

"We found marijuana on him and we also found the victim's possessions in his room," he said.

Wallace admitted stealing from two women who had reported their purses being stolen, as well as from two other escorts from Charlotte. Each of the women Wallace stole from were escorts from Charlotte who he had found online on the website. He would give the women different addresses near his home where he could easily meet them, take their purses and run. He admitted to contacting and stealing from the escorts from around the end of December and into January, Garcia said.
