Man dies after being hit by truck

A Monroe man died Friday night while being airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte after being hit by a car.

Caliph Isaiah Knotts, 21, of 507 P E Bazemore Drive, Monroe, died after being hit by a 2001 Dodge on NC 75 (Waxhaw Highway).

According to a N. C. Highway Patrol report, Knotts was walking west on NC 75 in the westbound lane wearing all black clothing Friday night. Cody Rex Kiker, 19, of 5002 Austin Road, Monroe, was driving the 2001 Dodge and was traveling west on NC 75 at the time his vehicle struck Knotts in the westbound lane of NC 75. Knotts came to a rest on the right shoulder of the road after the impact. Kiker turned his vehicle around after the incident not knowing what he had hit and parked facing east on the right shoulder of the road.

Knotts was initially taken to Carolinas Medical Center - Union after being struck but was later airlifted to CMC in Charlotte afterwards.

He died while being airlifted to Charlotte. The incident was an unavoidable accident and no charges have been filed, according to N.C. Highway Patrol staff.

According to an incomplete obituary for Knotts, funeral arrangements will be announced by Grier Funeral Service in Monroe.
