Tractor trailer wrecks amid effort to slow NC 218 traffic
N.C. Highway 218 was blocked for hours after a tractor trailer overturned Friday, according to the N.C. Highway Patrol.
At about 8:30 a.m., a tractor trailer carrying fiberglass lost control on a curve and overturned on 218 west of Mill Grove Road.
“He lost control coming around a curve and wound up overturning and hitting some trees,” N.C. Highway Patrol First Sgt. Mark Leach said.
Traffic on 218 was blocked until about 1:40 p.m. while workers extracted the truck.
It is the latest of several accidents on 218 lately.
“We’ve had some fatal wrecks out there in the past weeks,” Leach said. “We were running an enforcement project on 218 with some extra patrols to try to get truck drivers to slow down. And this happened.”
The truck driver, Alfonso Myer Jr. of Pamplico, S.C. was not hurt. Charges are pending investigation, Leach said.
