Fatal wreck Monday night
UPDATE: The driver who died in the wreck Monday night was David Patrick Little, 46, of 2318 Amesbury Avenue, Charlotte.
A wreck involving a drunk driver Monday night on U.S. Highway 601 near C.J. Thomas Road ended in a fatality.
As of Tuesday morning, the North Carolina Highway Patrol had not released the name of the deceased.
Andrez Lobato, 22, of 541 Lynn Road, Oakboro, who was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Silverado at the time of the wreck, has been charged with felony death by motor vehicle, involuntary manslaughter and driving while impaired, First Sgt. M.R. Leach of the North Carolina Highway Patrol said.
Around 11:30 p.m. Monday, the Chevrolet was traveling south on Highway 601 and crossed the centerline. The vehicle then in a head-on collision, struck a maroon 2012 Honda CRV, which was traveling north on the road. The driver of the Honda was killed instantly. Lobato was taken to the Union County Jail after the wreck where he was charged and placed under a $500,000 bond. As of Tuesday morning, the Highway Patrol was still working to notify next of kin before releasing the name of the person who died in Monday's wreck, Leach said.
