Ann Hancock, Wingate University's head women's basketball coach, will speak about doing what you love during a special luncheon Jan. 10.

As part of the event, Hancock will share her story and discuss pursing your passion even when you're not sure.

The event begins at 11:30 a.m. and runs until 1 p.m. at the Rolling Hills Country Club in Monroe.

"She was just a good fit for the presentation," Theresa Byers, director of events and programs for the Union County Chamber of Commerce, said.

Hancock is a local person and someone women can look up to, she said.

According to the Union County Chamber of Commerce website, the event is a Women In Business Luncheon titled "Are You Doing What You Love?"

On May 16, 2012, Wingate University announced Hancock's appointment as its head women's basketball coach. She is the fourth coach in the University's women's basketball history. She spent two seasons as an assistant women's basketball coach at East Carolina University and before that was the head women's basketball coach at UNC Wilmington for 10 seasons.  She attended Wingate University in the past and in her senior year led the university in scoring with 19.9 points per game. She was the 1992 NCAA Woman of the Year for North Carolina and earned a NCAA post-graduate scholarship. She was also the university's first ever Academic All-America selection in 1990. In addition to these accomplishments, as a coach, she was able to lead the UNC Wilmington Seahawks to the most NCAA victories in school history, according the Union County Chamber of Commerce website.

The cost to attend is $20 for chamber members and $30 for non-members. For more information call 704-289-4567 or visit
