Monroe police arrested a man Wednesday in connection with two recent business break-ins.

Henry Ellis Gainey, 52, of Monroe, was arrested in connection with break-ins at Dollar General on Sunset Drive on Tuesday and a break-in at Buddy's Point Restaurant on Franklin Street Wednesday morning.

A little after midnight on Tuesday, Monroe police responded to the Dollar General store on Sunset Drive and found that someone had damaged the front door, entered the store and removed a donation jar. On Wednesday at 2:42 a.m., Monroe police responded to Buddy's Point Restaurant on Franklin Street and found the front door glass broken and damage to the business as well as an undisclosed amount of cash missing.

Police determined the two incidents were connected and began an investigation, which led to Gainey being arrested and charged with two counts of felony larceny and two counts of injury to real property.

As of Thursday morning, Gainey was still in the Union County Jail under a $7,500 bond.
