Two-vehicle wreck injures four
A two-vehicle wreck early Monday morning led to the hospitalization of four people.
According to a report from the Monroe Police Department, Cody Bryce Thurman, 18, of 2722 S. Rocky River Road, Monroe, was traveling north on Rocky River Road in a 2002 Chevrolet.
A witness, who was traveling behind Thurman, said that Thurman sped up quickly and got about quarter of a mile ahead of her. The witness said he drove through the intersection at Goldmine Road and struck a 2006 Ford driven by Artie Lawing Phillips, 40, of 2700 Foxworth Drive, Monroe.
Another witness, who was driving behind Phillips' vehicle, said Phillips had the green light and Thurman had the red light. Thurman ran the red light and hit Phillips, according to the Monroe Police Department report.
The report states that the speed limit on the road was 45 mph. Police estimate Thurman was going about 60 mph while Phillips' was going about 15 mph at the time of the collision.
The report lists Rebecca Phillips, 38, Jacob Phillips, 10, and Levi Phillips, 3, were also in the accident. It states that Thurman, Artie Phillips, Rebecca Phillips and Jacob Phillips were taken to Carolinas Medical Center after the incident.
Thurman was charged with driving while impaired, according to the report.
According to a representative from Carolinas Medical Center, Thurman, Artie Phillips and Jacob Phillips were listed in good condition as of about 5 p.m. Monday. Rebecca Phillips was not listed in the hospital's system at that time.
