Pedestian hit by car, hospitalized
A man struck by a car in Wingate Saturday was in critical condition Tuesday afternoon at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
About 6:20 p.m. Saturday, Michael Griffin, 45, of Wingate, was attempting to cross Highway 74 near Stewart Street when he was hit by a Honda Accord, Chief Barry Glass of the Wingate Police Department said.
At least two cars swerved to miss him before the driver of the Honda Accord ran into him. Griffin was severely injured and flown to CMC after the incident, Glass said.
They were still investigating the incident Tuesday afternoon and as of that time, were not releasing the name of the Honda driver but planned to soon present the case to the District Attorney's Office. They were still waiting on toxicology results and other information from the investigation at that time, he said.
"I do not anticipate charges," he said.
On Tuesday they planned to present the case to the District Attorney sometime later this week, he said.
