Deaths for Dec. 29, 2012
Mrs. Martha Meggs Baucom, 76, left for her heavenly home on Wednesday, December 26, 2012. She was a homemaker and retired poultry farmer. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Weaver and Dezzie Birmingham Meggs; brothers, Fordham Meggs, J.W. Meggs; sister, Linday Smith; an infant sister, and a grandson.
Survivors include her children and spouses, Tom and Debbie Baucom, Richard and Jane Baucom, Jimmy and Bobbette Baucom and Valerie and Bryan Calkin; sisters, Florence Huneycutt and husband, Daniel, Julia Bell Godwin and husband, Boyce, Bernice Brewer, Rachel Davis, Janis Carroll and husband, Dan, Katherine Edwards and husband, Van; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Sunday December 30, 2012 at 2 p.m. at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, New Salem. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the graveside in the churches fellowship building.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, Hospice of Monroe or the Alzheimer’s Association.

Marie Crook, 62, of Charlotte died Wednesday, Dec. 26, 2012, as a result of an automobile accident.

Mary Lou Johnson
Mary Lou Johnson, 73, of Waxhaw died Thursday, Dec. 27, 2012.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2013 in Mineral Springs United Methodist Church.
Arrangements are being handled by Gordon Funeral Service.
Mrs. Mary Louise Pinson, 95, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, December 27, 2012 at Hospice of Union County.
Mrs. Pinson was born October 24, 1917 in Anson County, N.C., daughter of the late Charles and Anna Carpenter Melton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Clyde Pinson; siblings, Evelyn Sill, Ray Melton and Grover Melton.
Visitation will be Monday, December 31, 2012 from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. at the McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe. Funeral services to celebrate the life of Mary Louise will follow at 2 p.m. in the McEwen Colonial Chapel, with her pastor, the Rev, Paul Saleeby, officiating. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park in Wadesboro, N.C.
Survivors include one daughter, Brenda Walden of Monroe; one son, Rick Pinson and wife, Cheryl, of Ravenna, Ohio; grandchildren, Dana Slawter and husband, Sutton, of Winston Salem, N.C., Brian Walden of Charlotte N.C., Stephanie Harris and husband, Adam, of Valparariso Ind.; great-grandchildren, Jesse Kimbell of Debary, Fla., Preston Slawter of Winston Salem, N.C., Aubrie Harris of Valparariso Ind.; sister, Myrtle Melton Howell of Norwood, N.C.; sister-in-law, Rachel Gordon of Forest City, N.C.; special niece, Jenelle Ayers of Plymouth, N.C. and a number of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give special thanks to Dr. Gina Morrill and the entire staff of Hospice of Union County for the loving care shown their mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother.
