After a very long illness, Kenneth C. Whitley, 81, of Indian Trail, passed away very peacefully at Lake Park Nursing and Rehab on Saturday, March 23, 2013.
He was born August 2, 1931 in Stanly County, son of the late Martin and Emma Helms Whitley of Oakboro.
Ken graduated from Oakboro High School in 1951 and served as Sergeant in the US Army 1952 through 1954 during the Korean War. He was a former member of the VFW in Mint Hill.
Ken was employed with Firestone Tire & Rubber Company as Manager of Customer Service and retired as tire salesman. He was a member of First Baptist Church Indian Trail and Emmanuel Sunday School Class.
He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Elgeva “Geva” Honeycutt Whitley; children, Bryan Whitley of New Salem, Ginger Hill of San Marcos CA and Sandy Davis of Indian Trail; sibling, Cletus “Pete” Whitley (Lynette), Roy Lee Whitley (Sylvia), MA Whitley, Keith Whitley (Frances) and Judy W. Helms, all of Oakboro; grandchildren, Britney Whitley of New Salem, Joshua Pilkington of Kannapolis, Noah Pilkington of Savannah, GA and TJ Dunster of Weddington. He was preceded in death by his sister Clara W. Curlee of Oakboro.
A funeral to celebrate Ken's life will be held on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at 1:00 PM with receiving at 12:00 PM in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church Indian Trail. Military services will follow at Forest Lawn East Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the staff and employees of Lake Park Nursing and Rehab in Indian Trail NC for their special care during his last days.
