William Richard Call, 89 of Waxhaw, passed away peacefully at his home on June 13, 2013.
He was born on July 16, 1923 in Davie County, NC. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Ethel Evans Call, his sons, Jerry Call, Richard Call, Jr., and his daughter, Mary Pegram.
Richard was an avid golfer, and a consummate story-teller, who never met a stranger and loved to tell a good joke. He graduated from Spencer High School in 1940. He retired in 1983 from Norfolk Southern Railway as Master Mechanic of the eastern division after 43 years of service.
He is survived by his son Mike Call and wife Terry of Waxhaw, daughter Teresa Sabrinsky and husband Mike of Monroe, granddaughters Karen Hester and husband Brian, Allison O’Neal and husband Stuart, and Kim Krone, grandsons David Call, Brian Call and Matthew Brown, 10 great grandchildren, and sisters Bertie Snyder and Barbara Jarrett.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 at Heritage Funeral Home, Weddington Chapel, followed by a service at 3:00 in celebration and remembrance of Richard’s life. A private burial will be at Oakdale Baptist Church in Spencer, NC.
