PAID OBITUARY

L. Melvin Sells
L. Melvin Sells, 64, of Matthews passed away at Levine & Dickson Hospice House – Southminster, from complications of bone cancer.
A service to celebrate his life will be held 3 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at Mount Harmony Baptist Church, where he was a member. Officiating will be the Rev. Buddy Pigg and the Rev. Neal Lickliter.
Interment will follow in Charlotte Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Melvin was born August 4, 1948 in Charlotte, the only child of Laurence and Sarah Sells and was a graduate of East Mecklenburg High School. In 1972, he married the love of his life and best friend, Corinna Cates. They had three sons and daughters-in law, Kevin & Laura, Wilson & Christy, all of Indian Trail and Sam & Sarah, of Gastonia; six special grandsons, Hunter, Justin, Alex, Noah, Jacob and Joshua, and one special granddaughter, Rachel. Also surviving him is Corinna’s sister, who was like his own, Fredna Cates of Reston, Va.
Melvin was a gentle, loving, caring and Godly man who loved God, his family and his church. For more than 40 years, he made a name for himself and was well respected in the electrical distribution business. He worked inside and outside sales and quotations with several electrical supply houses all while making many friends and business associates.
Before his illness, Melvin was quite active in his church. He served on the Usher Committee, Building & Grounds and other various committees.  His favorite time was spent at Sunday School and worship service.
Melvin loved to work his garden. Growing food for his family and giving away lots of tomatoes provided him great joy. He also enjoyed NASCAR, and was defiantly a Ford fan. He also enjoyed spending time at the beach with family and friends.
His family would like to thank all our friends for transportation, tilling the garden, meals and visits. That all meant so much to him and he loved each and every one of you. He was especially thankful for the ramp that provided him ease in getting in and out of the house. A special thanks to Dr. Timothy Roush and Dr. Michael Livingston and their staff , for their wonderful care. The family would also like to thank the staff of Hospice and Palliative Care for making his transition as easy as possible.
In lieu for flowers, the family asks that you please make donations to Levine & Dickson Hospice House at Southminster, 8919 Park Road, Suite 1000, Charlotte, NC 28210, to the National Kidney Foundation - NC Region, 4701 Hedgemore Drive, Suite 810, Charlotte, NC 28209-3842 or to Mt.
