Vergie Faulkner
Vergie J. Faulkner, 90, of Peachland died Sunday at her home.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at  Peachland Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the Norview Cemetery in Norwood.  The family will receive friends from 12:30 till service time Wednesday in the fellowship building.
Arrangements are being handled by Morgan & Son Funeral Services.

Geneva Griffin
Geneva Griffin of Marshville died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013 at Carolinas Medical Center - Pineville.
Arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Richmond Funeral Home of Monroe.

Dillon Laney
Dillon Ray Laney, 70, died Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013.
Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013 in Gordon Funeral Chapel, 1904 Lancaster Ave. Monroe, NC 28112. The family will receive friends following the service.

James Presson
Mr. James Harold Presson, age 74, of Waxhaw, N.C., formerly of Marshville, N.C. passed away at his home, Sunday January 13, 2013.
Mr. Presson was born October 13, 1938 in Cabarrus County, N.C., a son of the late John Hubert and Margie Goodwin Presson. He was also predeceased by his brother, Eddie Presson and sister, Billie Trull.
Mr. Presson is survived by his wife of 53 years, Nancy Rushing Presson of Waxhaw, N.C.;  three sons, Bryan Presson and wife, Paula of Greensboro, N.C., Harold Presson and wife, Karla of Reidsville, N.C., and Stuart Presson of Marshville, N.C.; daughter, Sara Presson Grant and husband, Richard of Charlotte, N.C.; brothers, John Presson and wife, Inez and Steve Presson and wife, Marilyn. Mr. Presson is also survived by his nine grandchildren.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Jim Presson will be conducted Thursday, January 17, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Marshville, 1636 Old Highway 74, Marshville, NC 28103, at 11 a.m. conducted by Dr. Doug Danner.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. at the church, one hour prior to the memorial service.
Jim was a retired U.S. Mail Carrier in Monroe, N.C.
He was also an outdoorsman, and traveler who recognized the beauty of God's earth and made a commitment to share it with his lifelong travel partner, Nancy as well as his four children. His gentle demeanor and sense of humor made for cherished memories and stories that will be lovingly shared with family members for years to come.

Gary Purser
Gary Michael “Bud” Purser , 67, of Union County died Sunday, January 13, 2013 at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2013, at Hartsell Funeral Home in Midland.  Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, at Shiloh Advent Christian Church, 3601 Sikes Mill Road Monroe, N.C. 28110. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. At other times, the family will meet at his home.
Arrangements are being handled by Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland.

John Renkenberger
Mr. John Edward Renkenberger, age 76, of Waxhaw, N.C., passed away Saturday, January 12, 2013, at his residence.
A service to celebrate the life of John Edward Renkenberger will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 19, 2013, at Waxhaw Bible Church, 6810 Pleasant Grove Road, Waxhaw, NC 28173.
The reception will follow the service.
Mr. Renkenberger was born on February 5, 1936, in Canfield, Ohio, a son of Helena Beery Renkenberger and the late Gerald Lavern Renkenberger.
He was a retired building contractor.
Survivors include his wife, Rosa Lee Ganis of Waxhaw; three sons, Jerry Renkenberger of Waxhaw, Tim Renkenberger and wife, Jean of Waxhaw and Dale Renkenberger of Texas; his mother, Helena Renkenberger Phillips of Waxhaw; a brother, Paul Renkenberger of California; a sister, Sarah Wank of Waxhaw; close friends, Vern and Penny Esenwein of Charlotte.
There are four grandchildren.

Floyd Richardson
Floyd Richardson, 72, of Waxhaw died Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013 at Hospice of Union County.

John Sowell
John Edward Sowell, 73, of Monroe died Sunday, January 13, 2013. at Carolinas Medical Center-Mercy in Charlotte, N.C.  Graveside services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 16, 2013 at Lakeland Memorial Park, 1901 Lancaster Avenue in Monroe, N.C.
Born in Chesterfield County, S.C. July 9, 1939, a son of the late Leroy Baker and Lola Mae Sowell Morgan. He was a retired auto mechanic and transporter for Bowie Ford of Monroe, N.C. and was preceeded in death by his wife, Sarah Rakestraw Sowell on August 14, 2012.
He leaves to cherish his fond memories his children, Willie "Jingle" James Allen, Shirley Rakestraw Bess (Charles), Marvin Lewis Allen (Regina), Valerie Elaine Allen-Ware, Purnell Sowell (Pamela), Mikal Sowell (Tammy), Annie Sowell-Horton (Marion), Johnny Lewis Sowell (Denise), all of Monroe, N.C. and Carnell Sowell, (Teresa) of Fayetteville, N.C.; one sister, Annie Bell Chambers (Jaylynn) of Monroe, N.C;. one brother, Dubie Sowell (Junior) of South Carolina; 14 grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
