Bryce K. Powers, 21, of Monroe, North Carolina died April 26, 2013, as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident in Misawa, Japan.
He was born January 9, 1992 in Fremont, California, the son of James and Cathleen (McCormick). He attended Union County schools and graduated from Piedmont High School in 2010.
He was currently serving Active Duty as a Senior Airman in the United States Air Force in "AMMO" Munitions. Bryce joined the Air Force through the "Delayed Entry" program, during his Junior year of high school, at age 17. Bryce received the prestigious Union County Patriot Award in 2009. Served four years in the NC-955 Air Force JROTC group, eventually serving as NC-955 Group Commander during his Senior year in 2010; receiving multiple ribbons and awards.
Bryce is survived by his parents James and Cathleen of Monroe, and his sister Madison (16) who lives at home. He also leaves grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, his brothers and sisters in Arms, and many close friends.
Funeral arrangements are being handled by "W. J. Smith & Son Funeral Home" in Newport News, Virginia and "McEwen Funeral Home" in Monroe, North Carolina. A "Viewing" will be held at the McEwen Funeral Home on Friday, May 10, from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. A "Celebration of Life Service" will be held on Saturday, May 11 at 2:00 p.m. at Benton Heights Presbyterian Church in Monroe. An Invitation Only "Military Memorial Service" will be held on Monday, May 13 at 2:00 p.m. at Langley Air Force Base in Hampton, Virginia, and final honors will commence through "Military Funeral and Burial" on Thursday, May 16 at 2:00 p.m. at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. All are welcome to attend the "Viewing", "Celebration of Life", and "Military Funeral and Burial" services.

The Richmond Fisher House serves as a ‘home away from home’ for the families of Active Duty Military and Veterans receiving care at the Hunter Holmes McGuire VA Medical Center.
