Mrs. Alma Wallace Adams, 68, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Tuesday, February 12, 2013.
Mrs. Adams was born September 21, 1944 in Union County, daughter of the late Johnnie Aaron and Jessie Reid Smith Adams. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Tammy Lynette Adams who died in 1965.
Visitation will be 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday, February 14, 2013 at the McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe. Graveside services to celebrate the life of Alma will be 12:30 p.m. Friday, February 15, 2013 at Lucy Helms Cemetery, with the Rev. Jerry McCoy officiating.
Survivors include her husband, James F. Adams of the home; one son, Lane A. Adams of Monroe; one granddaughter, Brittney N. Romero and Tello of Monroe; two great-grandchildren; two sisters, Lynda W. Junghans of Monroe and Kathy W. Moore of Marshville.

Marjorie Linda Hightower Barber, 66, died Sunday, February 10, 2013 in Carolinas Medical Center-Union.
A graveside memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 1, 2013 in Eastview Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Lloyd Griffith officiating.
Linda was born in Anson County on July 15, 1946, a daughter of the late William Douglas Hightower and Marjorie Stipp Hightower.
Survivors include her children, Christa Barber McManus (John) of Monroe and Fredrick Douglas Barber of Monroe; their father, Henry F. Barber of Monroe; and two grandchildren, Jana McManus and Bailey McManus.
Also surviving are two brothers, W.D. “Bill” Hightower II (Margaret) of Norwood and F.M. Hightower (Debbie) of Wadesboro.

Mrs. Mary Joyce Jackson Ennis, age 79, passed away Monday, February 11, 2013 at Hospice House of Union County in Monroe.
Mrs. Ennis was born April 29, 1933 in Gilmer, Texas, a daughter of the late Mr. John William Jackson and the late Mrs. Minnie Addie Green Jackson.
Mrs. Ennis is survived by her husband: Mr. Harold Brown Ennis of the home; daughter, Judy Ennis of Monroe; granddaughter, Donna Sizemore (Danny) of Monroe; grandson, Michael Scott High of Monroe; five great-grandchildren, and one brother, Noel Ray Jackson of Dallas Texas.
The family will receive friends and relatives for visitation Friday afternoon, February 15, 2013) from 12:00 noon until 1:30 P.M. at McEwen Funeral Home in Monroe.
Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Ennis will be held at 2:00 P.M. (Friday afternoon, February 15, 2013) at Lakeland Memorial Park.

James William “Bill” Lanier, 80, of Peachland died Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2013 at Carolinas Medical Center - Union in Monroe. Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Friday, Feb. 15, 2013 at Hopewell United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Leavitt Funeral Home and other times at the home.
Starlette Banks McCollum, 62, went to be with her Lord and Savior after a lengthy battle with cancer on Tuesday morning, February 12, 2013 at Levine Dixon Hospice House, Southminster in Charlotte, N.C. She was born on January 11, 1951 in Waynesville, N.C. to the late Francis and Wiley George Banks, Sr. and grew up in Asheville, N.C.
She graduated from Lee H. Edwards High School, Asheville, N.C. and Western Carolina University in 1973, where she was a member of Zeta Tau Alpha. She taught at Unionville Elementary School from 1973 until she retired in 2003. In retirement, she enjoyed quilting and spending time with the family and friends.
Funeral services in her honor will be held Saturday, February 16, 2013 at 3 p.m. in Gordon Funeral Chapel, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112. Burial will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 1:30 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. prior to the funeral.
She is survived by her husband of 40 years, William E. McCollum of Monroe; daughters, Alison Dianne McCollum of Wilmington and Laura Elaine McCollum Epperson and husband, Sean, of Monroe. Her first grandchild is expected in May. Starlette is also survived by her brother, Wiley George Banks, Jr. and wife, Becky, of Morganton; her sister, Bridgette Marcinkoski and husband, Ray, of Lake Worth, Fla.; sister, Linda McConnell of Evergreen, Colo.; and sister, Amy Voehringer and husband, Steven, of Golden, Colo. and several nieces and nephews.
