Deaths for Dec. 19, 2012
Mr. J. C. Baucom, 90, passed away peacefully to be with the Lord on Monday, December 17, 2012 at Carolinas Medical Center-Union Hospital surrounded by his family. His wife, Helen Caskey Baucom of 66 years was by his side, along with his three children, Carrie “Mitzie” Hartis and husband, James, Ray Ward Baucom and Brenda Joyce Helms and husband, Rick.
Mr. Baucom was born July 8, 1922 in Union County, the sixth child of the late Joseph M. Baucom and Roxie Tomberlin Baucom. He was preceded in death by brothers, Plomer, Winfred, Johnson, Clarence, Billy Ray, Howard and Bradford Baucom; and two sisters, Mamie Price and Velma Baucom. J.C. has one surviving brother, Rommie Baucom and wife, Ruby, of Monroe, N.C. He loved his many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was in World War II in the Pacific with the U.S. Army attached to the Air Force. After the war, he worked as a brick mason until he was 70 years old and then as a hobby started oil painting at the Senior Citizens Center in Monroe of which he enjoyed very much. He never met a stranger and always had a good word and a smile for everyone.
Visitation will be Wednesday, December 19, 2012 from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe. Services to celebrate the life of J.C. will be 11 a.m., Thursday, December 20, 2012 at Union Baptist Church with the Rev. Tim Madaris, the Rev. Joe Mullis and the Rev. Danny Myers officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Bette Jane Maxwell Daley, 83, died Monday, December 17, 2012 at Lake Park Nursing Center.
Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Thursday at Forest Lawn East Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday at Good Shepherd Funeral Home, 6525 Old Monroe Road, Indian Trail.
Mrs. Daley was born July 9, 1929 in Oil City, Pa., daughter of the late William and Helen Meek Maxwell. She owned and operated the CB Barn in Monroe for more than 25 years. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Robert James Daley, Sr. and grandson, Matthew Daley.
Mrs. Daley is survived by her son, Robert James Daley, Jr. (Gala) of Bakersfield, Calif.; daughters, Sue Kerupetski (Walter) and Diane Daley Privette, both of Monroe; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Richard "Rick'"Fowler, 58, of Monroe died Monday, Dec. 17, 2012 at Carolinas Medical Center-Union.

Annie Lou Outen Funderburk Keziah, 80, passed away Monday, December 17, 2012. She was born in Union County, N.C. on March 16, 1932 daughter of the late Samuel Durant and Ellie Mae Medlin Outen.
Annie worked at Delmar Printing Company in Matthews for a number of years in the early 70s, then was a homemaker for many years and retired from Scott Aviation in Monroe.
Annie was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. She touched everyone she knew with her undying faith in God, beautiful smile, complete selflessness and wonderful sense of humor.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 21, 2012 at 1 p.m. in High Hill Primitive Baptist Church, 2225 Concord Hwy., Monroe, NC 28110. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Keziah was preceded in death by her husbands, Joe Tyson Funderburk and Issac B. Keziah. She is survived by daughters, Kimberly Braswell and husband, Rusty, of Monroe and Debra Viscount and husband, Tom, of Waxhaw; step-sons, Stacy Keziah, Kenneth Keziah and Doug Keziah, all of Monroe; step-daughter, Tammy Autry of Monroe; brother, Bill Outen of Orlanda, Fla.; sisters, Alene Funderburk and Betty Payne, both of Monroe, 12 grandchildren, and three great grandchildren.
The family will receive friends Thursday, December 20, 2012 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112.

Arthur Ray Taylor, 84, passed away Monday, December 17, 2012. He was born in Anson County, N.C. on November 17, 1928, son of the late Henry Foster and Jennie Bet Sheppard Taylor.
Mr. Taylor was a U.S. Army veteran and a retired shop foreman with the N.C. Department of Transportation.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, December 20, 2012 at 11 a.m. in Hopewell United Methodist Church. Burial will be held in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends in the church following the burial.
Mr. Taylor is survived by his wife, Dorothy Preslar Taylor; son, Art Taylor and wife, Debbie, of Hartsville, S.C.; daughter, Vonnie Taylor Litte and husband, Mike, of Peachland; brothers, Jack Taylor of Wadesboro and Paul Taylor of Apex; sisters, Zettie Marsh of Matthews and Bettie Haney, of Marshville; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
