Arnett Alexander Jr.
Mr. Arnett Richard Alexander, Jr., 70, of Waxhaw, N.C. died Friday, December 21, 2012. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 2 p.m. at New Town Road Community Church with the Apostle Merve Massey officiating. Burial will be in the New Living Word Discipleship & Worship Center Cemetery.
He was born August 16, 1942 in Brooklyn, N.Y. to Azzrie Coleman Alexander and the late Arnett Richard Alexander, Sr.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Carolyn Massey Alexander of the home; son, Damien Massey of Monroe; adopted daughter, Twa Howie of the home; mother, Mrs. Azzrie Alexander of Lancaster, S.C.; brother, Roy Alexander of Brooklyn, N.Y.; sister, Mrs. Denise Cabbell of Lancaster, S.C. and one grandson, Brandon Jordan.
The body will lie in state one hour before the service. Public viewing will be held on Friday, December 28, 2012 from 11 a.m. until 7 p.m. in the Bennie Blakely, Jr. Memorial Chapel at Richmond Funeral Home, 714 East Franklin Street, Monroe NC, 704-238-0002.
Frances Mangum Haywood “Frankie” passed away Thursday, December 27, 2012 at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation. She was born August 10, 1921 in Pageland, S.C., daughter of the late Curtis and Josephine Mangum. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Lee Haywood; a daughter, Brenda Joyce Haywood; a sister, Mary Bailey and brother, Gene Mangum.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, December 29, 2012 at 1 p.m. in Bonds Grove United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the burial at the church.
She is survived by sons, Larry Haywood (Beverly), Gary Haywood, (Sharon Greene); daughter, Kathy Gordon (Bob Swartz); eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and sister, Lib Cox.

Carolyn Helms, 73, of Monroe, N.C., went to be with our Lord December 24, 2012.
Carolyn was born Sept 24, 1939 in Monroe, N.C. She was the daughter of the late Walter (Doc) Hill and Vinnie Secrest Hill and also preceded in death by her brothers, Walter Everett Hill and Robert (Bobby) Milton Hill. She was a lifelong member of Secrest Grove Baptist Church and enjoyed serving in the senior adults ministry. One of the things she treasured most was planning and going on annual excursions with her extended family, which grew to over 30 persons. Carolyn was fiercely devoted to her family, especially her nine grandchildren and her two great-grandchildren, and was a steady source of inspiration and guidance for them all.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday December 28, 2012 at Secrest Grove Baptist Church, 4505 Weddington Road Monroe, NC 28110, with burial to follow in church cemetery.
She will be fondly remembered by her husband of 53 years, Leon; children, Michael and wife, Kimberly, Scott and wife, Joie, Rodney and wife, Lisa; grandchildren, Matthew, Bradley, Melanie, Taylor, Nick, Kate, and Leah Helms, Michelle and husband, Bryan, Thomas, Kristy and husband, Chris Short; and great-grandchildren, Gavin and Kinsley Short. She is also survived by two sisters, Martha and husband, Frank Hawkins, and Nancy and husband, Jerry Huneycutt. She will be greatly missed.

Darley Martin Walker
Darley Martin Walker, 36, passed away Sunday, December 23, 2012. She was born in Charleston, W.Va., December 17, 1976, daughter to Barbara Wiseman Martin and the late Doyle William Martin.
A memorial service will be held 4 p.m. Saturday, December 29, 2012 in Gordon Funeral Chapel, 1904 Lancaster Ave. Monroe NC 28112.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Walker; two sons, Derrick and Kenderick Walker; daughter, Darley Walker, all of Monroe; step-children, Kenny Jordan of W. Va., and Ashley Horne of Wingate; two brothers, Doyle Martin of Utah and Bobby Martin of Monroe; five sisters, Barbara Kesler of W.Va., Veronica Banks of Ky., Dawn Losh of W.Va, Celline Neuberth of South Carolina and Jenine Kakunes of Utah.

Mr. Willis (Bill) Wilson Walton, 86, of Monroe passed away Thursday morning, December 27, 2012 at Carolinas Medical Center - Union, Monroe, N.C. Mr. Walton was born April 15, 1926 in Union County, N.C., a son of the late Mr. Clarke Willis Walton and the late Sarah Emma Wilson Walton. He was also preceded in death by three sisters, Rebecca Plaxco, Martha Traynor and Mary Gainey and also two brothers, Clarence Walton and Jack Walton.
Bill was a World War II veteran and a lifetime member of First Presbyterian Church, where he served both as elder and deacon and was a member of the Men’s Bible Class. He retired from Monroe Builders Supply.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, December 29, 2012 at First Presbyterian Church, Monroe, N.C. The family will receive friends following the service.
Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Lorraine Mitchum Walton; son, Charles Wilson Walton and wife, Rachel; sister, Mrs. Sarah Walton Plyler of Vero Beach, Fla.; sister-in-law, Mrs. Sarah “Boots” Walton of Charlotte; brothers-in-law, Charles Cecil Mitchum and wife, Teka, of Matthews, Dr. Kenneth E. Mitchum and wife, Jean of Pittsboro, N.C., Dr. Gerald Mitchum and wife, Frances, of Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia and Larry Graham Mitchum and wife, Mary, of Baton Rouge, La.; grandchildren, Lisa Lorraine Stiwinter and husband, Chris, Steven Clarke Walton and Bryan Wilson Walton and wife, Jessica, and four great-grandchildren.

Mr. Lewis Coningsby Williams, age 86, of Monroe, N.C., passed away Tuesday, December 25, 2012 at Carolinas Medical Center-Union.
A funeral service to celebrate the life of Mr. Lewis Williams will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Davis Funeral Chapel, officiated by the Rev. Rick King. Interment will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mr. Williams was born on February 21, 1926, in Hershey, Pa., a son of the late Benjamin Harrison Williams and Alice Krickbaum Williams. He was married to the late Elva Williams.
He was a retired textile plant engineer for Raymark with over 30 years of dedicated service. He was also a U.S. Navy veteran and a former member of the Lions Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Betsy Byrum and husband, Richard Byrum, of Wingate and a grandson, Kevin Byrum and wife, Laura Byrum, of Monroe.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Saturday night, December 29, 2012, at Davis Funeral Home in Monroe, 1003 East Franklin Street.
