Mr. Benson Kenneth Carpenter, Jr, age 81, of Monroe, N.C., passed away Monday, December 31, 2012, at Carolinas Medical Center-Union.
Funeral Services to Celebrate the Life of Kenneth Carpenter will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday January 4, 2013, at New Hope United Methodist Church, 3221 Plyler Mill Rd. Monroe, NC 28112 officiated by the Rev. Denise Kilgo-Martin and the Rev. Ron Setzer. Interment will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park.
Mr. Carpenter was born on February 28, 1931, in York, S.C., a son of the late Benson Kenneth Carpenter, Sr and Zora Lathan Carpenter.
Kenneth was preceded in death by his former wife and mother of their children, Frances Griffin Carpenter; grandson, Joey Carpenter; brother, Elwyn Carpenter; and sister, Neal Welch.
He was retired from the City of Monroe Public Works Department as a supervisor. Kenneth had a big heart and opened his home many times to family members that needed shelter and guidance. He was the heart of the Carpenter family and will be greatly missed by everyone that knew and loved him.
Kenneth enjoyed spending time with his sons and their families, sharing his wit and humor with each generation. He enjoyed traveling and shared his stories with his family after each trip. Kenneth was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church in Monroe, N.C.
Survivors include his wife, Sarah Aycoth Carter Carpenter; sons, Benny Carpenter and wife, Pat, of Monroe, Greg Carpenter and wife, Jane, of Monroe, and Bryan Carpenter and wife, Cathy, of Monroe; brother, Lonnie Carpenter and wife, Judy, of Monroe; and sister Della Schlappich and husband, Larry, of Monroe.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Thursday evening, January 3, 2013 at Davis Funeral Home, 1003 East Franklin Street, Monroe, NC 28112.

Mrs. Jacqueline Raye Crook, 50, passed away Monday, December 31, 2012. She was the daughter of Amelia Jensen McCurdy and the late Rolly Charles Poulter. She is also preceded in death by her son, Adam Blackburn.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Thursday January 3, 2013 at Gordon Funeral Chapel, with burial to follow in Lakeland Memorial Park.
She is survived by her husband, Norman A. Crook; mother, Amelia McCurdy of Tellico Plains, Tenn; sons, David Helton and Brian Blackburn, both of Monroe; brother, Robert J. Poulter of Monroe; sisters, Grace Anna Collins of Tellico Plains, Tenn. and Estelle R. Benge of Columbia, S.C.; grandchildren, Katlin Carter, Cody and Hannah Sutton and Brett Matthew Helton.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, January 2, 2013 from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. at Gordon Funeral Service.

Pamela Tucker Hatcher, 54 of Cabarrus County passed away Monday, December 31, 2012 at Tucker Hospice of Kannapolis.
Mrs. Hatcher was born April 8, 1958 in Cabarrus County to Louis James Tucker and to the late Doris Geraldine Barrier Tucker.
The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m., Thursday, January 3, at Hartsell Funeral Home in Midland. The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, January 4, 2013 at Carolina Presbyterian Church. The Rev. Mike Cannon will officiate. Burial will follow at Carolina Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
Survivors include her husband, Mark Anthony Hatcher; one son, Mark Anthony Hatcher II, both of the home in Cabarrus County and one brother, Louis James Tucker, Jr.
Mrs. Hatcher was employed by Carolinas Medical Center - NorthEast for 18 years. She also had a passion for various church actives. She was an Awana’s leader, children’s church leader, GA leader, Sunday School and youth helper, Member of National Day of Prayer committee and long time supporter of Pregnancy Resource Center of Stanly County.

Peggy Austin Pressley, 83, passed away Monday, December 31, 2013. She was born March 13, 1929 in Union County, N.C. daughter to the late Jonathan Clayton and Ocie Clontz Austin. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Paul Wilson Pressley.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, January 2, 2013 at Mill Creek Baptist Church, burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends following the service.
Peggy is survived by a son, Paul Wilson Pressley, Jr. of Lilburn, Ga.; two daughters. Marcia Vansant of Monroe, Ga., and Melody McLain of Monroe, N.C.; five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren.

Ralph Lee Starnes, 85, passed away Monday, December 31, 2012. Ralph was born in Union County, N.C., October 12, 1927, son of the late John Hurley and Pearl Leigh McManus Starnes. He was a painting contractor with R & J Painting Company. Ralph was also preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Bliss Starnes, May 6, 2012 and a grandchild, Crystal Hicks.
Funeral services will be held Friday, January 4, 2012 at 1 p.m. in the Gordon Funeral Chapel, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112. Burial will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Ralph is survived by his children; Bill Starnes (Kay), Wanda Morrison (Hank), Debbie Keeter, and Jeff Starnes (Lynn); grandchildren, Patrick Starnes, Kyle Starnes, Tonya Hance, Amanda Cherry, Tammy Tadlock, Tony Keeter, Nicole Keeter, Britany Keeter and Samantha Starnes; 13 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Eleanor Hammond (Junior) and a half-brother, John Hurley Starnes, Jr.

Joe Thomas Jr.
Mr. Joe L. Thomas, Jr., age 32, of Wesley Chapel, N.C., passed away Monday, December 31, 2012, at Carolinas Medical Center-Charlotte.
Memorial services to celebrate the life of Joe L. Thomas, Jr. will be conducted at 11 a.m. Friday, January 4, 2013, at Faulks Baptist Church, officiated by Dr. David Richardson and the Rev. Paul McClure.
Mr. Thomas was born on March 18, 1980, in Union County, N.C., a son of Joe Leonard Thomas and Sue Harward Thomas Sr.
Joe was a logistics manager with Turbomeca of Monroe, a French based company which allowed him to travel to Europe many times where he bonded with many fellow French co-workers. He loved to meet new people. He loved to travel abroad, whether vacationing with family or for business. Other favorite past times included working with his '61 Impala SS, being a craftsman in all his endeavors, and always loved being outside, whether running, looking at nature, or working in the yard.
Survivors include his wife, Jenny Smith Thomas of Wesley Chapel; his parents, Joe and Sue Thomas of the Burnsville Community; his father- and mother-in-law, Keith and Catherine Mills Smith of Wingate; Jenny's two sisters, Jamie and Jason Harrell of Marshville, Jessica Smith and Joe Earley of Raleigh; her grandfather, Joel Smith of Wingate and her grandmother, Betty Owens of Wingate; their pets, Amber, Hope and Zack. There are many uncles, aunts, and cousins.
Jenny would like to thank friends, family and community for their thoughts, prayers and generosity during his 17 month battle with cancer. A special thanks to our Carolinas Medical Center-Waxhaw family, Carolinas Medical Center - Union family, Turbomeca family and Chick-Fil-A Wesley Chapel Family.
