“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7)

Karen Brooks Price, 63, passed into eternal life Saturday, November 9, 2013 at CMC-Pineville after a prolonged battle against kidney cancer.  Her life was always one dedicated to service and love.

Karen, the daughter of the late Bill and Marie Brooks, was born on July 14, 1950 and lived her life here in Union County.  She was a graduate of Piedmont High School and Wingate College School of Business.  She worked as a legal secretary in Monroe until entering public service as both town clerk of Indian Trail, NC and city clerk of Monroe.

Karen was a 23-year survivor of breast cancer and helped initiate the Piedmont Community Breast Cancer Walk held annually at Piedmont High School in October.  Her efforts in this organization helped raise thousands of dollars in the fight against breast cancer.

Karen lived a life of deep faith and gave great testimony to her Lord through every circumstance of life.  She was a lifetime member of Benton’s Cross Roads Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and served on numerous missions endeavors.  Karen played the organ at her church for forty years because her greatest love in serving God was through music.

To her family, Karen was an anchor, a protector and a shield.  She attended band events and music concerts to support and encourage her daughter and never missed a baseball game to cheer on her son.  Karen’s legacy is the gift of love she bestowed on her children and family.
Karen is survived by her daughter, Leslie Price and her son, Matt Price and wife Jessica; her sister Anita B. Simpson; brother Stan Brooks; and sister Nora Brooks, all of Monroe.  She is also survived by two grandsons she adored, Andrew and William Price. Her extended family includes five nieces and nephews and nine great-nieces and nephews all who lovingly called her Aunt K-K.
The family will gather at her home on Unionville-Brief Road and receive visitors Monday, November 11, 2013 at Gordon Funeral Service and Crematory, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe from 6-8 pm.  The funeral will be at Benton’s Cross Roads Baptist Church, 109 E. Lawyers Road, Monroe, NC  28110 on Tuesday, November 12, 2013 at 3:00 pm with interment to follow in the church cemetery.
The family would like to express their deep appreciate to Dr. John F. Mahoney, Dr. Sridhar Pal and their excellent staff for their care during Karen’s journey, as well as thanking the compassionate care from the doctors and ICU staff of CMC-Pineville.  It was Karen’s wish that any memorials be made to the cancer research of choice.
