Kathy Arnold
Kathy Stegall Arnold, 59, of Norwood, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013 at Carolina’s Medical Center – Main.   
Visitation will be 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Jan. 8, 2013 at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle.
Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2013 at 2 p.m. at New London United Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Stanly Gardens of Memory. At other times, the family will meet at 34310 Blue Bird Lane, New London.
Arrangements are being handled by Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle.




Albert Faulkenbury
Albert Faulkenbury, 73, of Indian Land, S.C., died Sunday, January 6, 2013, at the Wayne T. Patrick Hospice House in Rock Hill.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at Wolfe Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be at Unity Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Wolfe Funeral Home, Fort Mill, S.C.


Norma Focht
Norma Focht, 70, of Monroe died Friday, Jan. 4, 2013 at her residence.
Funeral arrangements are incomplete and will be announced by Good Shepherd Funeral Home, Indian Trail.



Mary Humphries
Mary Atwood Humphries, 86, died Sunday, Jan. 6, 2013.
Funeral services will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 13, 2013 at First Baptist Church of Monroe.  The family will receive friends prior to the service from 1 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. at the church.  A full obituary will run later.
Arrangements are being handled by Gordon Funeral Service.   







Sammy Mangum
Mr. Sammy Millon Mangum, age 75, died Friday, January 4, 2013.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Philadelphia Baptist Church, Marshville, N.C. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 1 p.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday, prior to the service in the fellowship hall of Philadelphia Baptist Church.
Mr. Mangum was born February 13, 1937 in Marshville, N.C., a son of the late Ben Frank and Mary Blanche Autrey Mangum. He was a graduate of Union School in Marshville, N.C. and attended Clemson University. Sammy was former superintendent with the Town of Pageland Water Department. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran during the Korean conflict.
Mr. Mangum was a former member of Philadelphia Baptist Church and attended Mt. Harmony Baptist Church. Sammy enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family. He was a true people person who never met a stranger, always thought of others, and always had a smile for everyone. In addition to his parents, Sammy was also preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Mangum and Sherrill Mangum.
Surviving is one son, Doug (Michelle) Mangum of Jacksonville, Fla.; three daughters, Susan Mangum McInnis of Monroe, N.C., Andi Mangum Stogner of Lancaster, S.C., and Julie Mangum of Pageland, S.C.; seven grandchildren, Sam, Daniel, Dylan, Andrew, Trisha, Paige, and Hannah; two great-grandchildren, Tyler and Haleigh; two brothers, Ronnie Mangum of Monroe, N.C. and Gary Mangum of Marshville, N.C.; and one sister, Joann Jordan of Pageland, S.C.
The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to all the staff of Hospice of Union County for the loving care given to their loved one.

Ethel M. Purdy Newman, 69, of Monroe died friday Jan 4,2013 at her residence.
There will be a service for friends and family at her home, 907 A Sikes Mill Road in Monroe from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. Wednesday.


Madreth Plyler
Mrs. Madreth Carnes Plyler, 93, of Fort Mill, S.C., died Saturday, January 5, 2013, at Agape Rehabilitation Center in Rock Hill.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m., Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at Wolfe Funeral Home. The funeral will follow at 2 p.m. Burial will be at Unity Cemetery.
Born in Monroe, N.C., Mrs. Plyler was a daughter of the late Jim Carnes and Ella Presson Carnes McManus. She was retired from Springs Industries after 41 years of service. Mrs. Plyler was a member of Zoar United Methodist Church in Pageland. She loved her family and enjoyed gardening and reading the Bible, which she completed several times.
Surviving are her husband, Lewis James Plyler; her son, Lewis James Plyler, Jr. and his wife, Linda, of Rock Hill; her brother, Don Lyles of Monroe, N.C.; her sister, Florence Gendor of Wallingford, Conn.; and her grandson, Bradley Plyler.
Memorial contributions may be made to Zoar United Methodist Church, 4302 Stack Road, Monroe, NC 28112 in memory of Madreth Plyler.

Maxine Seaton
Maxine Irene Seaton, 86, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2013.  She was born in Mecosta County, Mich. on July 1, 1926, daughter of the late Earl and Bernice Smith.
Mrs. Seaton is survived by sons, Robert Seaton of Titusville, Fla. and Richard Seaton of North Fort Myers, Fla.; daughter, Diane C. Vosburgh of Monroe; brother, Jack Smith of Mecosta, Mich.; grandchildren, Corey Vosburgh Cohen, Tracy Vosburgh Fedele, Amy Seaton and Ava Seaton; and three great grandchildren.
