Jeremy Maurice Barbour, 23, of Monroe died Monday, Nov. 26, 2012 at Carolinas Medical Center - Union.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Sunday at Mt. Calvary A.M.E. Zion Church. Burial will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery in Monroe. The body will lie in state one hour before the service. Public viewing will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012 in the Bennie Blakely Jr. Memorial Chapel at Richmond Funeral Home.
Mrs. Betty Hamilton Fowler, 86, passed away on Sunday, November 25, 2011 at Woodridge Assisted Living.
Mrs. Fowler was born March 7, 1926 in Mecklenburg County, daughter of the late James Grover and Georgia Noreen Myers Hamilton. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Melvern Blyth Fowler, and a son, Jimmy Fowler.
Visitation will be Monday, December 3. 2012 at the McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe from 12 noon until 1:30 p.m. Services to celebrate her life will be 1:30 p.m. in the McEwen Colonial Chapel. Interment will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park.
Survivors include her daughter, Susan Fowler Dunne and husband, Dan, of Winston Salem N.C.; two grandchildren, Stephanie Hamilton Dunne and Barrington Anthony Dunneboth of Winston Salem N.C.; one great-grandchild, Gracelyn Alexis Dunne of Winston Salem N.C.

Michael Wilson Griffin, 63, passed away November 29, 2012. Mike was born March 15, 1949 in Union County, son of the late Zeb Wilson and Ettra Helms Griffin.
Mr. Griffin was a graduate of Piedmont High School and Hamilton Business College. Upon graduation, he served in the U.S. Navy as a gunner’s mate on the U.S.S. Columbus. He was then associated with his father, Zeb’s business, Griffin’s Nursery and later was a machinist and quality control inspector most recently with Teledyne Allvac. His hobby and passion was gunsmithing.
Funeral services will be Monday, December 3, 2012 at 2 p.m. in Unionville Baptist Church, 510 Baucom Road, Monroe, N.C. Burial will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park. The family will visit with friends and relatives Sunday, December 2, 2012 from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. in Gordon Funeral Service, 1904 Lancaster Avenue, Monroe, NC 28112.
Mr. Griffin is survived by his wife, Marilyn Gordon Griffin; daughters, Michelle and husband, David Neher of Monroe and Monica and husband, Matthew Hunter of Hampton, Va.; grandchildren, Samantha Neher, Abigayle Neher and Maxwell Hunter.

Callie Helms, 84, of Monroe died November 30, 2012.

Mr. Robert “Bob” Hill, 78 of Lake Park N.C. died Thursday November 29, 2011 at the Jesse Helms Nursing Center in Monroe.
Mr. Hill was born May 24, 1934 in Mecklenburg County, N.C., son of the late Walter Earnest and Vennie F. Secrest Hill. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Walter Everett Hill. Bob was the retired owner of Hill Insurance Company.
Visitation will be Sunday, December 2, 2012 from 2 p.m. until 3 p.m. at Secrest Grove Baptist Church, with services to celebrate his life beginning at 3p.m. in the church sanctuary, with his pastor, the Rev. Jeff Whitecotton officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
Survivors include two daughters, Kimberly Ann Hill Pace and husband, Robert Ashley Pace, of Indian Trail N.C., Susan Hill Hey and husband, David Hey, of Greenville, S.C.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; three sisters, Carolyn Helms and husband, Leon, of Monroe, N.C., Martha Ann Hawkins and husband, Frank, of Murrills Inlet, S.C., Nancy Huneycutt and husband, Jerry, of Monroe N.C.; former wife, Roe Ann Hill of Indian Trail N.C.

Robert F. Hillegas of Lakepark, N.C. died Wednesday at Carrillon Assisted Living.

Charles Richard Price, 73, passed away Wednesday, November 28, 2012. He was born in Union County, N.C. on March 5, 1939 son of the late Burl James and Shirley Benton Price. Mr. Price was owner and president of Beam Electric Company.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, December 2, 2012 at 2 p.m. in Lakeview Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Price cemetery.
Mr. Price was preceded in death by his wife of 43 years, Sarah Libes Price who passed away in 2006. He is survived by a son, Richard Carlton Price and wife, Gina, of Monroe; brother, Edward Price of Monroe; sister, Vada Aldridge of Charlotte and two grandchildren, Shelby and Charley Price.

Evelyn Rushing, 62, of Marshville died Friday at Autumn Care Nursing Center of Marshville.

Ms. Simmons, 72, of Indian Trail died Thursday, November 29, 2012 at home. Her family will receive friends Sunday evening from 6 p.m. to 8 pm at Heritage Funeral Home in Indian Trail with a service in celebration of her life being held on Monday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn East Cemetery.
Doris was born December 19, 1939 in Union County to the late Wade and Winnie Plyler. She was the former owner of Old Timers in Matthews. She loved flowers and gardening. She had a heart of gold, and was always there to help anyone in need.
She was also preceded in death by her children, Sharon Simmons, Stephen Simmons, H. Dale Simmons and by her grandson, Kenneth Davis. Her survivors include her daughter, Alisa Simmons of Indian Trail; grandchildren, Adam, Shelby, Dale, and Camille; great-grandson, Andrew; brothers, Ted Plyler of Fairview, Wade Plyler (Linda) of Pennsylvania, former husband, Gene Simmons of Indian Trail; and by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Arrangements for the Simmons family are in the care of Heritage Funeral Home.
Gary Stokes, 56, of Monroe died Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012 at Hospice of Union County.
