Susan Gail Helms
Ms. Susan Gail Thomas Helms, age 52, departed this life on Monday, January 28, 2013 at Presbyterian Hospital - Matthews, North Carolina.
Funeral Services to Celebrate the Life of Susan Gail Thomas Helms will be conducted at 11:00 AM Friday (February 1, 2013) at Davis Funeral Home Chapel, 1003 East Franklin Street Monroe, NC 28112. Interment will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park Cemetery.
Gail was born on October 2, 1960, in Monroe, North Carolina, a daughter of the late Billy Parks Thomas and Doris Nell McManus. She was a homemaker and will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her best.
Gail is survived by her loving husband, Randy Lee of the home, her step-mother, Janey Driggers and husband Jimmy of Chesterfield, SC; brothers Steve Thomas of Jefferson, SC, Robin Thomas and wife Selena of Marshville, NC, Dean Thomas of Wingate, NC; sisters Patty Starnes and husband Joey of Pageland, SC, and Amy Thomas of Chesterfield, SC; her loving daughters, Ashley Cox of Monroe, NC, Brandy Helms Lowery and husband Jason of Marshville, NC, Christy Price and husband Michael of Monroe, NC, and Brooke Thomas of Liverpool, Ohio; and five grandchildren.
In addition to her parents, Gail was predeceased by two brothers, Jeff Thomas and Nicholas Paul Thomas.
Visitation for friends and family will be held  6:00 PM - 8:00 PM Thursday (January 31, 2013) at Davis Funeral Home

Penny Kay Jenkins
Penny Kay Jenkins, 49, passed away Monday, January 28, 2013.  She was born in Cumberland County, New Jersey on August 24, 1963 daughter of Bessie Steel McAllister and the late Robert McAllister.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 2, 2013 at 11:00 AM in West Monroe Baptist Church.  Burial will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park.
Penny is survived by her mother, Bessie McAllister, husband, Russell Jenkins IV, daughter, Malia Emma Krimminger, sister, Marsha Krimminger.

Kenneth Krupa
Kenneth  M.  Krupa, 71, of Monroe died January 27, 2013.
Services will be  6 p.m.  Thursday January 31, 2013 at Sardis Baptist Church, 3602 Unionville-Indian Trail Rd, Indian Trail.

Kenneth Price
Kenneth G. Price, 78, passed away on Thursday, January 24, 2013 at Moses H. Cone Hospital.  
A Celebration of Life Service will be held at Hanes-Lineberry Funeral Home, Sedgefield Chapel on Saturday, February 2nd, 2013.  Mr. Price will lie in state in the chapel on Saturday from 12:00 until 2:00 for friends and family to pay their respects.  The service will begin at 2:00 with Pastor Bob Voorhees and Pastor Bob Cable officiating.
Mr. Price was born in Monroe, NC on April 3rd, 1934 to Ambrose June Price and Parry Adeline Price.  He was preceded in death by brothers Theron, Theodore, Willard and Napoleon and sister, Naomi.  He is survived by wife and childhood sweetheart, Juanita Price.  Together they enjoyed 58 years of marriage.  He is also survived by one daughter, Mitzi Price Lorenz and husband Pete Lorenz; three grandchildren, Cameron Pinnix, Courtney Pinnix Shaffer (husband, Greg Shaffer), and Vincent Lorenz.  Mr. Price is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Ryder Pinnix and Graham Shaffer.
Mr. Price began working in Monroe, NC as a machinist, moving to Greensboro in 1962 to take a job with Dixie Machine Company.  He worked his way into sales with Gibbs Machine and C.E. Smith companies before opening a sales rep company with a partner, Hege-Price Associates.  In 1978, Mr. Price opened his own business, Price Machine and Fabrication, Inc. and ran that successfully with his wife and daughter until he retired in 2007.
Mr. Price was a member of Southside Baptist Church for 38 years where he served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher and sang in the choir.  For the past 5 years, Mr. Price has enjoyed being a member of Westover Church with his wife Juanita.
Mr. Price was an avid golfer, playing up until a few months before his death.  He was really proud of a round of golf he played not too long ago, saying he “shot his age”, which was 78.  He was an extraordinary man of integrity in business and in life.  He loved his family and friends dearly and he will be terribly missed.

Shirley Hill Riley
Shirley Hill Riley, 80, of Monroe, N.C., chose to fly with the angels on Monday evening, January 28, 2013.  
Shirley was born in Union  County on October 18, 1932 to Wriston and Mrtha Strawn Hill.
She was a retired CNA and a homemaker. She was very special to her family. Shirley was an avid Atlanta Braves baseball fan.
Her grandchildren were he passion and delight. She spent countless hours with them. She was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church in Monroe, N.C.
  Shirley is survived by her husband of 61 years, Lowell Riley of the home; a son, Gene (Shelia) Riley Of Austin, Texas; a daughter, Cathy (Jimmy) Lovette; brothers, James (Margaret) Hill, Jerry (Phyllis) Hill all of Monroe, N.C. and sister, Judy (Keith) Simpson Of Indian Trail N.C.  
Grandchildren include Jennifer (Gevan) Mccoy, Brenton Riley Both of Austin Texas, and Jagger Lovette Of Monroe, N.C. She has four great grandchildren, Kylan, Kaden, Kiah And Kael Mccoy all of Austin Texas.
 In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her sister, Geraldine Valero and her brother, Larry Hill.
Veiwing will be Friday, February 1, 2013, From noon until 1:30 p.m. at the McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe. Graveside services to celebrate her life will be 2 p.m. Friday, February 1, 2013 at Lakeland Memorial Park with the Reverend Steve Phillippi officiating.

Lt. Col Michael Sabrinsky
Lt. Col. (Ret.) Michael J. Sabrinsky, 96 of Indian Trail, NC, a native of Mahanoy Plane, PA died Sunday, January 27, 2013. Preceding Michael in death was his wife of 55 years, Elizabeth A. Van Wormer Sabrinsky of Toledo, OH and brothers Pete and John Sabrinsky and sister, Mary McCarthy. Lt. Col. Sabrinsky is survived by daughter, Elizabeth; son, Michael; daughter-in-law, Teresa; grandchildren, Erin and husband Nathan, Tiffany and husband Shane, Christopher and  wife Kristen and Marlo; three great-grandchildren, Foster, Wade, and Vivienne.
Michael was born August 28, 1916, son of Thomas and Anna Petrosky Sabrinsky. He graduated from Gilberton High School holding records in football, that are still not broken. Attending Villanova University on a football scholarship, Michael, a 1940 graduate was known as “The Flash” on the gridiron, setting records as a punter and halfback.
Drafted into the Army in 1940, Michael attended Officer Candidate School and received his military commission as a 2nd Lieutenant in a career that spanned 22 years. Service included posts at Ft. Benjamin Harrison, IN; Ft. Knox, KY; Carlise Barracks, PA; Ft. Custer, MI; Ft. Myer, VA.; Ft. Monroe, VA; Ft. De Russy, Honolulu, Hawaii; Seoul, Korea; Camp Drake, Japan; Seton Hall, NJ where he received a Master’s degree; and his last post, Ft. Leonard Wood, MO. While stationed in Hawaii he both coached and played in the Army football team. While in Japan, Mike coached the All-Army teams winning the 1956 Far East Command Inter-Service Football Air Force-Army Rice Bowl Game Championship.
Lt. Col. (Ret.) was recognized with the Army Commendation Medal, American Campaign Medal, World War II Victory Medal, National Defense Service Medal and the Armed Forces Reserve Medal. Following his retirement from the military in 1963, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Sabrinsky began his work in education as an ROTC Instructor at Wooster High School, Wooster, OH; Principal of the Boy’s School, Wooster, OH; Asst. Superintendent of Federal Programs, Wheeling, WVA and Darlington, SC.
Michael was a fighter, a warrior, a brother, a son, an uncle, a friend, a soldier, a grandfather, great-grandfather and a wonderful father- truly an officer and a gentleman. His 96 years of life will continue to enrich the lives of his friends and all of his family.
A funeral mass will be held at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 725 Deese St, Monroe, NC 28112 on Friday, February 1, 2013 at 12:00 noon by Father Benjamin Roberts. The interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery, date to be determined.

Harriet Rena Smith, 91, of Matthews, died Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at CMC-Union Monroe.
