Mrs. Joan Secrest Fielden, age 83, died on Wednesday, May 7, 2014 at Hospice of Union County, due to complications from lung cancer and lupus.
Joan was born July 2, 1930 in Union County. She was preceded in death by her mother, Pauline Benton Secrest, Her father Bruce Blair Secrest, her step-mother, Mabel Stillwell Secrest and her brother-in-law, Randall Lathan.
Survivors include her husband: Joe E. Fielden of the home, son, Bruce Fielden (Martha) of Roswell Ga., daughter: Beth Fielden of Charlotte NC, granddaughter, Sara Beth Turner(Justin) of Kennesaw, GA, sister, Marie Lathan, brother, Pat Secrest (Gayle), nephews, Ric Lathan (Anita), Rodney Secrest (Melinda), Brian Secrest (Wendy),and many beloved great- nieces and great- nephews. Special caregivers: Amy Kisiah, Cathy Jones and Ruby Price. Joan will be remembered as a great wife, mother, and sister by her immediate family and a wonderful friend to all she knew, especially her church family. The family will receive visitors in the Fellowship Hall at Grace United Methodist Church on Saturday, May 10, from 10:00 until 11:00 A.M. with a memorial service to celebrate her life at 11:00 A.M. in the Church Sanctuary, with Reverend Bill Englebreath and Reverend Paul Saleeby officiating. Interment will follow at a later date in the Church Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Union County or to Grace United Methodist Church.
