Mildred Chaney Miller, 94 of Asheville was called home Monday, July 15, 2013 at Trinity View Retirement Center.
A native of Monroe, N.C., she was daughter of the late Frank and Loma Faulkner Chaney. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow "Woody" Miller and sister, Maude Dixon Chaney Bonner.
A registered nurse, Mildred was a graduate of Mercy Hospital in Charlotte, NC. She received her Public Health Nursing training at UNC Chapel Hill and special education at Western Carolina University. Following 34 years of service, she retired in 1977 from the Buncombe County Health Department where she was Supervisor and Co-Director of Public Health. Very active in both local and state organizations, she held many offices in the health field. She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Asheville.
Survivors include her daughter, Marcia Miller Ray and her husband, Rod of Gloucester, VA; granddaughter, Carmen Ray Charalambous and her husband, Harris of Columbia, MD; grandson, Simon G. Ray of California; nephew, James T. Miller of Plano, TX and sister-in-law, Marilyn Anderson of Anderson, SC.
A memorial service will be announced at a later date.
