Elease Benton
Elease Parker Benton, 75, passed away at home surrounded by her family, Wednesday, November 28, 2012.  She was born in Union County, N.C. on June 28, 1937, daughter of the late Amos S. and Arlene Mills Parker.
Mrs. Benton was a graduate of Appalachian University with a masters degree in elementary education.  She retired from the Union County School system, where she taught for over 27 years.  Elease was a reading consultant in the early beginnings of Title 1 and helped to establish a base for other programs.  She wanted every child to learn to read and took it on as her personal responsibility to help all children reach this goal.  Mrs. Benton was past president and charter member of the Monroe Pilot Club and member of Alpha Delta Kappa.
She was a member at West Monroe Baptist Church and later years was an active member at Benton Heights Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday school, was a choir member and WMU president.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m., Friday, November 30, 2012, at Gordon Funeral Chapel, 1904 Lancaster Ave., Monroe, NC 28112. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until 1:45 p.m. prior to the service.  Burial will follow in the Monroe City Cemetery.
Mrs. Benton is survived by her brother, Bobby Parker and wife, Pat; nieces, Cindy Parker Price, Kim Parker and Mary Rose Helms, all of Monroe.
The family is very thankful for her caregivers, Winnie Hanna and Brenda Gaither and Hospice for the excellent care she received, which allowed her to stay at her own home for the last six years as she struggled with Alzheimer’s and arthritis. We are thankful that God has given her a new body now in heaven and she can rejoice with Jesus her savior forever.

Richard Hutto
Richard Carlisle Hutto, 71, passed away, Tuesday, November 27, 2012.  He was born in Lexington County, S.C. on February 6, 1941, son of the late James Carlisle and Edna Hutto.
A memorial service will be held Friday, November 30, 2012 at 6:30 p.m. at Waxhaw Baptist Church.  The family will receive friends following the service.
Mr. Hutto was preceded in death by his wife, Carolyn Manus Hutto, who died November 17, 2012.  He is also preceded in death by one brother, Ronald Hutto, and two sisters, Sandra Hutto Matinchek and Gail Hutto Shore. He is survived by a daughter, (Hope) Marie Hutto of Winston-Salem; a son, Jonathan Richard Hutto and wife, Dana, of Waxhaw; brother, Jimmy Hutto of Rock Hill, S.C.; sisters, Carolyn Hutto Godfrey of Waxhaw and Linda Hutto Finley of Rock Hill, S.C.; four grandchildren, Rebecca Carolyn Crump, Rowan, Katherine and Addison Hutto.

Terry Carson Lowery Sr., 47, of Pageland, S.C., died November 27, 2012.
Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012 at Bethlehem Baptist Church Family Life Center. Interment will follow the service in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, November 30, 2012 at Bethlehem Baptist Church Family Life Center.

Emma Morton
Emma Harkey Morton, 89, of Stanly County, passed away on Monday, November 26, 2012 at Carebridge Assisted Living in Mount Pleasant.
The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle on Friday, November 30, 2012, from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m.
The funeral service, officiated by the Rev. Jacqueline Tookey, will be at Salem United Methodist Church, Albemarle on Saturday, December 1, 2012 at 2 p.m. The body will lie in state for 30 minutes prior to the service. Burial will follow at the church cemetery.
Mrs. Morton was born on August 5, 1923, to the late Jonah Harkey and the late Liller Harkey. She is also preceded in death by her beloved husband, Hubert Fetzer Morton; brothers, Ray Harkey, Hugh Harkey, Hal Harkey, Grady Harkey, Floyd Harkey, Jess Harkey, Ruby James Harkey and Claud Harkey.
She is survived by a son, Steve Morton and wife, Debbie, of Monroe; two daughters, Dianne Chamley of Albemarle and Lynn Gibson and husband, Kiner, of Albemarle; eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Ozeal Nance
Mrs. Ozeal Stewart Nance, 95, passed away on Monday, November 26, 2012 at Carolina Medical Center-Union.
Mrs. Nance was born September 23, 1917 in Chester County, Tenn., the daughter of the late William Joe and Susie Matilda Woodruff Nance. She was also preceded in death by her husband, James Marvin Nance, who died in 1986; her brother, Lomax Stewart; her sister, Ophelia Stewart and her son-in-law, James Harward.
Visitation will be Friday, November 30, 2012 from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. in at the McEwen Funeral Home of Monroe. Services to celebrate the life of Mrs. Nance will be 11 a.m, in the McEwen Colonial Chapel. Officiating will be the Rev. Roger Nance. Burial will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park.
Survivors include one son, Kelton Nance and wife, Susan, of Charlotte, N.C.; one daughter, Velma Harward of Savannah, Ga.; one step-granddaughter, Shannon Collins and husband, Dr. Mark Collins, of Charlotte N.C.; four step-great-grandchildren, Macall, Bryan, Hudson and Addia Collins all of Charlotte N.C.
