Deaths November 17
MONROE — Mr. Nollie Buren Baucom, age 70, passed away Saturday November 14, 2009, in Carolinas Medical Center-Union in Monroe, N.C.
He was born March 3, 1939, in Union County, N.C., the son of the late Mr. John Key Baucom and the late Mrs. Lena Mae Hinson Baucom. In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Linda Polk Baucom in 1995, and brother, Dwight Baucom.
Mr. Baucom is survived by one daughter, Teresa Austin and husband Mitch of Unionville; two sons: Tony Baucom and wife Kelly of Monroe and Todd Baucom and wife Mitzie of New Salem; three brothers, Arlie Baucom and Hubert Baucom, both of Wingate, N.C., Kenneth Baucom of Monroe, N.C.; three sisters, Bonnie Greene and Pat Deese, both of Monroe, N.C., Belinda Deese of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida; six grandchildren: Corey Austin, Kyle Austin, Cameron Baucom, Caleb Baucom, Sera Baucom and Ryan Baucom.
The family will receive friends and relatives for visitation Tuesday November 17, 2009, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McEwen Funeral Home in Monroe.
Funeral services for Mr. Baucom will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday November 18, 2009, at Crooked Creek Primitive Baptist Church, conducted by Elder Larry Austin with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the family to help with medical expenses.
McEwen Funeral and Cremation Service of Monroe is serving the family of Mr. Baucom.

Jeffrey Eudy
MIDLAND — Jeffrey Alan Eudy, 39, of Midland, N.C., passed away November 16, 2009, at his home.
Mr. Eudy was born May 26, 1970, in Mecklenburg County. He was the owner of J. A. Eudy Guttering and a member of Lakeview Baptist Church, Monroe.
A visitation will be held Wednesday, November 18, 2009, from 7:00 – 9:00, at Hartsell Funeral Home, Midland. All other times the family will meet at the home.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, November 19, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel at Hartsell Funeral Home, Midland, officiated by Rev. Steve Jirgal. Interment will follow at Arlington Baptist Church Cemetery, 9801 Arlington Church Road, Charlotte.
He is survived by his wife, Trinette Reuschlein Eudy of the home; daughters, Kristen E. Melvin of Roseboro, Lauren Eudy and Charli Eudy of Midland; parents, William Stevenson and Carolyn Linker Eudy; and brother, Mark Stevenson Eudy.
Hartsell Funeral Home, Midland, is serving the Eudy family.

CHARLOTTE — Maggie Blakely Howey, 86, died Sunday (Nov. 15, 2009) at Wilora Lake Nursing Center.

Timothy Laney
MONROE — Timothy Allen Laney, after battling a long illness God called him home, Monday 12:45 a.m. at Presbyterian Hospital Matthews. At his bedside was his wife, children, sister-in-law her husband and a cousin.
Tim was born August 24, 1958, in Union County, N.C., the son of the late Dexter and Doris Laney. He was preceded in death by a brother, Mickey, brother-in-law Darrell Chaney Jr. and his faithful dog of 17 years, Spike.
A memorial service to celebrate his life will be held, Tuesday, November 17, 2009, 2:00 PM at Corinth Baptist Church with a private burial service.
Until his illness, and retirement, Tim worked 27 years for the city of Monroe Street Department as an equip operator 2. He was a devoted husband, daddy and pawpaw. He loved his girls, his great joy was his twin boys playing ball, teaching them to work on cars and racing. He will be most missed by his twin grandsons and his granddaughter who he doted on. Before she could barely walk she knew all the football calls.
Tim is survived by his loving wife of 35 years, Darren Chaney Laney; daughters, Linda Dorise (Dinky) and her husband Danny Ashburner and Joni Jane Laney; twin sons, Timothy Allen Jr. and his wife Brittany Ashburner Laney and Edward D. Laney; granddaughter, Hannah, and twin grandsons, Riley and Daniel Ashburner; a brother, Billy; and sister, Mildred, all of Monroe; a brother, Danny of Santee, S.C.; father-in-law and mother-in-law ,Edward Darrell and Linda Sinclair Chaney; sister-in-law, Dana Chaney and husband Olin Deaton, sister-in-law, Denise Chaney and husband, Dr. R. Brian Outen; several nieces and nephews, all of Monroe.
The family will receive friends following the memorial service in the fellowship hall at the church. Gordon Funeral and Cremation Service is serving the family.

Myrtle Delorse Greene Marks
MONROE — Mrs. Marks, 89, of Monroe died on November 15, 2009 surrounded by her children at Lake Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Indian Trail, N.C. Born July 2, 1920 in Union County, North Carolina, Mrs. Marks was the daughter of the late Harvey N. and Jenny Williams Greene. She was married to the late Rev. Ellis L. Marks Sr. and celebrated 60 years in marriage with him before his death. She worked beside her husband, Rev. Ellis L. Marks Sr. as they served in the ministry, working with numerous Baptist churches in North and South Carolina for 25 years. In their last ministry assignment, they had the opportunity to work with the Union Baptist Association for 12 years prior to their retirement in 1986.
Mrs. Marks is survived by four children, E. Lazelle Marks Jr. and wife Judy of Rockingham, N.C.; Fred Marks and wife Sue of Monroe, N.C., Sylvia Marks of Indian Trail, N.C., and Janet Marks Breedlove of Durham, N.C. She was blessed with five grandchildren Greg Marks (Laurie), Jon Marks (Caroline), of Rockingham, Brian Marks (Amber) of High Point, Beth Marks Avent (Noel) of Raleigh, and Carol Anne Caudle of Charlotte; four great-grandchildren, Kinsey Avent, Drew Marks, Evan and Ryan Watkins. Mrs. Marks is survived by one brother, Billy Morris Greene and wife Dorothy of Monroe, brothers and sisters-in-law Boyce Turner, Evelyn Marks, Ruth and Clyde Jenkins, Hazel Marks and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Marks was preceded in death by one great-grandchild Regan Carol Marks of Rockingham, four brothers Ray, Lee, Dowd, and Yewell Greene of Monroe, and four sisters Colen G. Carriker and Alene G. Hargett of Monroe, Alma G. McDonald of Rockingham, and Dot G. Turner of Stanfield.
Mrs. Marks’s legacy of love and her many teachings will remain in our hearts. Her life centered around being a helpmate and companion for her husband and a homemaker for her family. One of her greatest joys in life was bringing everyone together, especially her family, to celebrate any occasion or holiday.
A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Marks will be held on Wednesday, November 18, 2009, 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Monroe, N.C., with Dr. John Hewett and Rev. Joe Larrimore officiating. Graveside services will be held at Lakeland Memorial Park in Monroe following the service. The family will receive friends at McEwen Funeral Service in Monroe on Tuesday evening, November 17, 7:00-9:00 p.m.
The family requests that memorial donations be made to First Baptist Church Monroe, 109 Morrow Ave., Monroe, NC 28112 or to Wingate University Scholarship Fund, Office of Resource Development, Campus Box 3071, Wingate NC 28174 designated for the Ellis L. Marks, Sr. Memorial Scholarship.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Lake Park Nursing and Rehabilitation Center for the excellent care provided for Mrs. Marks during her time at Lake Park. Special thanks are expressed to Cathy Jones, her caregiver since 2003.

Raymelle McCormack
MONROE — Mrs. Raymelle Whitley Threadgill McCormack, age 75, of Monroe, passed away peacefully on Sunday afternoon (November 15, 2009) at her residence.
A funeral service to celebrate her life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday (November 18, 2009) at Sutton Park Baptist Church, officiated by Reverend Shad Hicks.
Interment will follow at Lakeland Memorial Park Cemetery.
Mrs. McCormack was born on October 20, 1934, in Union County, North Carolina, a daughter of Jeanette Mullis Whitley of Monroe and the late Bryce Franklin Whitley.
She was married to the late Olin Threadgill, who passed in 1997.
She was a retired librarian with the Union County Public Library with over 27 years of service.
Survivors include her husband, James J. McCormack of Monroe; three sons, Ray Threadgill and wife Kay Threadgill of Monroe, Dennis Threadgill and wife Bonnie Threadgill of Monroe and Rick Threadgill and wife Teresa Threadgill of Monroe; a daughter, Amy Threadgill Ford and husband Todd Ford of Monroe; her mother, Jeanette Mullis Whitley of Monroe; a brother, Bryce Franklin Whitley Jr. of Lancaster, S.C.; three sisters, Barbara Haney of Marshville, Joyce Downes of Newtown, Pennsylvania and Betty Jean Whitley of Monroe.
There are 5 grandchildren, Ashley Threadgill, Chris Threadgill, Brandon Threadgill, Heather Threadgill and Andrew Ford; and 3 great-grandchildren, Ashlyn Threadgill, Alexis Threadgill and Chloe Threadgill.
The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday night (November 17, 2009) at Davis Funeral Home in Monroe, 1003 East Franklin Street.
