Deaths November 18
GASTONIA — LaDante Da-King Herndon, 7 months, died Sunday (Nov. 15, 2009) at Gaston Memorial Hospital.
Arrangements will be announced by Grier Funeral Service of Monroe.
Maggie Howey
CHARLOTTE — Maggie Blakely Howey, 86, died Sunday (Nov. 15, 2009) at Wilora Lake Nursing Center.
Funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Macedonia Baptist Church in Van Wyck, S.C., with burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The body will lie in repose one hour before the service.
Born April 23, 1923, in Laurens, S.C., she was a daughter of the late John Rush and Mary Irby Blakely.
Survivors include two sons, Randolph Howey of Cornelius, Mitchell Howey of Charlotte; five daughters, Clara Roseboro, Barbara Withers, Margaret Evans, Mary “Tina” Howey, all of Charlotte, Carolyn Albritton of Concord; one sister, Lula Pearl Ingram of Buffalo, N.Y.; 20 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Grier Funeral Service of Charlotte. Grier Funeral Service of Monroe is in charge.
Clay Lefler
MATTHEWS — Clay Tony Lefler Sr., 83, died Tuesday (Nov. 17, 2009) at Presbyterian Hospital.
Arrangements will be announced by Heritage Funeral Home of Indian Trail.
Robin Rorie
WINGATE — Robin Simpson Rorie, 44, died Tuesday (Nov. 17, 2009) at Carolinas Medical Center-Union in Monroe.
Arrangements will be announced by Grier Funeral Service of Monroe.
Fay Ross
MARSHVILLE — Fay Wynn Ross, 80, died Sunday (Nov. 15, 2009) at home.
Graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday in Sunset Memory Gardens; people may meet at 10 a.m. at McEwen Funeral Home in Monroe to caravan to the cemetery.
Born Aug. 22, 1929, in South Norfolk, Va., she was a daughter of the late Benjamin Josephus Wynn and the late Grace Burgess Middleton. She was married to the late Paul Edward Ross.
Survivors include two sons, Timothy Ross of Chester, Va., David Ross of Midlothian, Va.; four daughters, Susan Lewis of Matthews, Kathleen Ross of Marshville, Sharon Ross Ruff of Jamestown, Carole Ross Schrader of Fredricksburg, Va.; two brothers, Roy Wynn of Corydon, Ind., Donald Wynn of Soledad, Philippines; 15 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
