Deaths November 24
MONROE — Mr. James Alan “Al” Hart, age 59, passed away Sunday November 22, 2009, at Carolinas Medical Center-Union in Monroe, N.C.
He was born June 15, 1950, in Union County, N.C, the son of Mrs. Dera Wascom Hart and the late Mr. Sam Boyd Hart.
In addition to his mother, Mr. Hart is survived by his wife, Mrs. Jean H. Hart of the home; one sister, Carol Hart Flow and husband Ed of Jacksonville, Fla.; one nephew, Eddie Flow and wife Heather of Jacksonville, Fla.; one niece, Donna Burroughs and husband Joe of Raeford, N.C.; one great-nephew, Alex Flow; two great-nieces, Lydia Flow and Lauren Burroughs; father-in-law, Beemer Helms of Monroe, N.C.
The family will receive friends and relatives for visitation Wednesday November 25, 2009, from 9:30 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at McEwen Funeral Home in Monroe.
Funeral services for Mr. Hart will be 11:00 a.m. Wednesday November 25, 2009 in the McEwen Colonial Chapel, conducted by the Rev. Ted Wright and the Rev. John Culbreth, with burial to follow in Lakeland Memorial Park, with Masonic rites.
The family suggest memorials be made to Trinity Baptist Church, 2613 Concord Hwy., Monroe, NC 28110.
McEwen Funeral and Cremation Service of Monroe is serving the family of Mr. Hart.

Oscar Lee Starnes
MATTHEWS — Mr. Starnes, 92, of Matthews passed away Sunday, November 22, 2009, at CMC-University. Graveside services will be conducted at 12 noon Wednesday at Indian Trail Cemetery. His family will receive friends for the hour prior to the service at Heritage Funeral Home, 4431 Old Monroe Rd.
Mr. Starnes was born August 19, 1917, in Union County to the late Wade H. and Blanch Long Starnes. He served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII and participated in the Battle of the Bulge. He retired after many years of service with Seven-Eleven Corp. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Willie Flowe Starnes, and by his siblings, Wade H. Starnes Jr., Woodrow Starnes, Grier Starnes, Jane Freeman, Luther Starnes and Johnnie Mae Starnes.
His survivors include his sisters, Mabel Funderburk of Indian Trail and Wattsie Tynner of Florida, Tom Starnes of Indian Trail; niece, Janet Graham and husband Al of Stallings; great-nieces, Stephanie and Courtney Ross; and by numerous other nieces and nephews.
The family would like to offer their deep appreciation to Hunter Woods Nursing and to CMC-University Staff and to Dr. Kirv Mendez, and to Hospice at Charlotte for their kind and loving care and support. They also ask that memorials may be sent to Hospice and Palliative Care Charlotte Region, 1420 E. 7th Street, Charlotte NC 28204.
Arrangements for the Starnes family are in the care of Heritage Funeral Home.
