Ola R. Boone

JEFFERSON, S.C. -- Ola Rollings Boone of Jefferson, S.C., died Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009.

Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, December 22, 2009, at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Jefferson, S.C.

Visitation was Monday, December 21, 2009, at Sutton-Baumgartner Funeral Home.

Mrs. Boone was the daughter of the late John W. and Sarena Kirkley Rollings. Her huband, Hurtle Boone; son, Rod Boone, and daughter, Ann Rollings, also predeceased Mrs. Boone.

Survivors include three sons, Tony, (Emily) Boone of South Daytona Beach, Fla., Harold (Brenda) Boone of Harrisburg, N.C. and the Rev. Billy (Ruby) Boone of Gaffney, S.C.; two daughters, Dorothy (Ellis) Moore of Jefferson, S.C. and Faye (Jon) Hatcher of Virginia Beach, Va.; a brother, George Rollings of Lancaster, S.C.; special nephew, Honey (Martha) Rollings of Jefferson, S.C.; 11 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Special thanks for the loving compassionate care from the Jesse Helms Nursing staff who became a second family to her through their caring ways.

CHARLOTTE -- Charles Herbert (Cutty) Huneycutt, age 76, of Charlotte, died Monday (December 21, 2009) at Hospice House I of Union County.

Thomas N. Richardson

WAXHAW -- Thomas N. Richardson, 74, died Monday, December 21, 2009 at Hospice and Community Care in Rock Hill, SC.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

I.B. Shive

MONROE -- Ivey Bernard Shive, 91, passed away Saturday, December 19, 2009, at Union Park Assisted Living. I.B. was born November 3, 1918, in Mars Hill, NC son to the late Ivey Brown and Salie Shive. His beloved wife, Dorothy, passed away in 1997. He was also preceded in death by his sister Virginia S. Smith.

Funeral services will be held 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 22, 2009 at Central United Methodist Church, with burial to follow in Lakeland Memorial Park.

I.B. attended public school at Winecoff in Cabarrus County, Wingate Junior College, and Wake Forest College. He received his Principal’s Certificate from UNC-Chapel Hill. He then later served in WWII. For 30 years he served as principal at Millingport schools in Stanly County, Mt. Gilead in Montgomery County, and retired as principal at Monroe High School in 1976. He then served on the Monroe City Council for 16 years as councilman and Mayor Pro-tem. He was also a member of the Mt. Gilead and Monroe Civitan Clubs.

He is survived by one son, Dan M. Shive of Monroe, one grandson Andrew M. Shive and wife Sherry of Denver, NC, two great granddaughters, Allison and Amanda, eight nephews, and nieces, and numerous great nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends on Monday, December 21, 2009 from 6:00PM until 8:00PM at Gordon Funeral and Cremation Service, 1904 Lancaster Ave. Monroe. Oliver W. Starnes

MONROE -- Oliver Wendell Starnes, 62, of Monroe, died Sunday, December 20, 2009, at his home.

Jay J. Sulzman

INDIAN TRAIL -- Jay J. Sulzmann, 63, a retired computer programmer and high school math teacher, died on December 20, 2009 at his home in Indian Trail.

He was married to married to Elizabeth Newell Sulzmann for 27 years.

He is survived by his wife, and their son, Jay J. Sulzmann, Jr., of Washington, D.C.; his sisters, Marguerite Reid of South Carolina and Sally Hartnett of New Jersey; two nieces and several nephews.

A Vietnam Veteran, Mr. Sulzmann will be laid to rest at a private graveside service at Salisbury National Cemetery. A memorial service will be Saturday, December 26 at 11 a.m. at Matthews Orthodox Presbyterian Church, 2701 Rice Rd, Matthews, NC.

In lieu of flowers, donations to help defray medical expenses should be made to the PRC Deacons Fund, PO Box 206, Matthews, NC 28106.
