Charles Hinson

WADESBORO – Mr. Charles Grant Hinson, 87, died Monday, December 28, 2009 in CMC Union, Monroe.

Funeral services will be 3:00PM Thursday at Leavitt Funeral Home with Rev. Rocky Carpenter and Rev. Jeff Goudelock officiating. Interment will follow in Anson Memorial Park. The family will greet frien ds at the funeral home on Thursday beginning at 1:30PM.

Grant was born in Stanly County on February 13, 1922, a son of the late Charles Rueben Hinson and Hattie Campbell Hinson. Prior to her death in 2006, Grant was married for 63 years to Mary Fannie Lineberry Hinson and he spent over 60 years barbering in uptown Wadesboro before his retirement.

Survivors include four children Kenny (Shirley) Hinson of Polkton, David (Diane) Hinson of Mooresville, Wanda (Craig) Morton of Troy, Milton (Edith) Hinson of Marshville; five grandchildren, Richard (Kristie) Hinson of Norwood, Jeffrey (Anita) Hinson of Polkton, Jennifer H. (Keith) Winters of Mooresville, Brannon (Holly) of Raleigh, Ashley Morton of Raleigh; and three great-grandchildren, Kortney Hinson, Kelsey Hinson, and Alexis Brook Hinson. Also surviving are a brother and sister, Aaron Hinson of Lilesville and Nell Cruse of Concord.

Grant was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister, Leroy Hinson, Max Hinson and Jewel Hinson.

Joe Lohman Sr.

CHARLOTTE

Joe Dan Lohman Sr., 79, of Charlotte died December 29, 2009 at Presbyterian Harris Hospice Unit.

He was born January 19, 1930 to the late Alice Lohman in Mecklenburg County. He is also preceded in death by his sister, Evelyn Allen.

He was a Korean War Veteran serving in the Army and also retired from the US Air Force after 21 years of service. .

Mr. Lohman is survived by his wife of 54 years, Betty Beamer Lohman; son, Joe Lohman Jr. ; daughter, Debra Weaver; and 3 grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Thursday, December 31, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Eastway Baptist Church. Burial will follow with full military honors at Sunset Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service.

Hallie Moree, of Pageland,S.C. died December 29, 2009

Services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, December 31, 2009 at Union Hill Baptist Church

Burial will follow at Greenlawn Memorial Park

Visitation will be Wednesday, December 30, 2009 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Sutton-Baumgartner Funeral Home

She was the daughter of the late Henry and Lillie McClain Moree, and also was predeceased by sons, James Henry Burgess, Donnie Earl Burgess, Kenneth Wade Burgess; and sisters, Roxie Mae Moree and Mary Frances Vann

Survivors include a son, Wayne Burgess; daughters, Ann Patterson (Kevin) of Pageland, S.C., Lisa Kirby of Jefferson, S.C.; brothers, Arley Moree (Diane), Hubert Moree (Almettia), Graham Moree (Myrtle) all of Pageland, S.C.; sisters, Edna Price and Ethel Hanke both of Pageland, S.C.; twelve grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

William Query

MONROE

William Reid Query , 78, died Tuesday, December 29, 2009, at Carolinas Medical Center-Union in Monroe.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday, December 31, 2009, in McEwen Colonial Chapel. Entombment will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park Mausoleum.

Born in Mecklenburg County on July 2, 1931, he was the son of the late William Rice Query and the late Jenny Rosanne Black Query.

Survivors include his wife, Margaret Newell Query of the home; two sons, Mike Query of Wingate, and Jim Query of York, S.C.; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Wedesday, December 30, 2009, from 6 to 8 p.m. at McEwen Funeral Home in Monroe.

Marvin Sechler

MONROE -- Marvin Richard Sechler, 94, passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2009 at Hospice of Union County; House One. He was born in Rowan County on October 2, 1915 son of the late Calvin and Carrie Flemming Sechler. Mr. Sechler was retired from Firestone after 40 years of service, was a faithful member for over 60 years of Bethlehem United Methodist Church and was the oldest male member. He and his brothers loved bluegrass music and played in the Yodeling Rangers later known as the Trail Riders Band during the 1930’s.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, December 30, 2009 at 2:00 PM at Bethlehem United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Lakeland Memorial Park.

Mr. Sechler was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth “Lib” Walkup Sechler, brother, Duard Sechler. He is survived by his daughter, Gaile Rowell of Monroe, brothers, George Sechler of Crowley, TX, Curly Sechler of Hendersonville, TN, Floyd Sechler and Hugh Sechler, both of China Grove, sisters, Mary Freeze and Ruth Speck, both of China Grove, and granddaughter, Heather Rhew of Sunset Beach, NC.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 until 1:45 Wednesday prior to the service at the church.

Catherine Vance

FREDERIKSBURG, Va. — Catherine Wyvonne Weaver Vance, 77, of Fredericksburg, Virginia, died Wednesday, December 23, 2009. Born in Madison County to Charles Elton and Pansy Frazier Weaver, she grew up in Culpeper and graduated from Culpeper High School, ‘49. Shortly after graduating from Mary Washington College (B.S. ‘53), now UMW, she married Victor Vance, Jr. of Jackson, Mississippi. They resided in Mississippi, Virginia, and New Jersey before retiring in Monroe, North Carolina. They moved to Fredericksburg in 2005. She leaves behind many close friends and memories in the communities where she resided during her lifetime. She taught Mathematics in Culpeper and New Jersey and was a lifelong avid gardener, accomplished woodworker, and competitive bridge player. She gave her time to many social and civic organizations including mentoring and tutoring programs, the American Red Cross and local Republican party politics. She was a past member of the Rolling Hills Country Club and First Baptist Church of Monroe, North Carolina. Mr. Vance predeceased her in 2006 after 53 years of marriage.

A June 2004 Free-Lance Star article featured Mrs. Vance’s 1953 original Priscilla of Boston wedding gown being remade in Boston at the designer’s workshop for her granddaughter, Katherine Moncure Stuart.

She is survived by her daughter, Vanessa V. Moncure and husband Withers W. Moncure, Jr. She is also survived by her grandson Withers W. (Webb) Moncure III and wife Fernanda, great-grandsons Sebastian, George, and Withers IV of Fredericksburg; granddaughter Katherine M. Stuart and husband Harrison, great-grandson Edward (Teddy) of Knoxville, Tennessee; grandson Avery Moncure of Fredericksburg. Her sister Maxine W. Crane and husband Danny of Stoneville, North Carolina also survive, as do nieces Cheryl Crane of Fredericksburg and her family and Cathie Reel with husband Bill of Kernersville, North Carolina and their sons; sisters-in-law Martha Mitchell of Florida and her family, Donna V. Carr and husband Charles of Tennessee and her family. She is also survived by two aunts, an uncle, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
