Deaths for November 1
Madison
Richard Wayne Blackwell, 42, beloved husband and father of 1209 Webb Loop Road, passed away on Friday, October 30, 2009.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 PM Monday, November 2, 2009 at Wilkerson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev Tom Brown officiating. Interment will follow in Reidlawn Cemetery.
Richard was born in Guilford County, to the late Jerry and Margaret Helms Blackwell and was an employee of GP Fabrication. Along with his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Jerry Blackwell, Jr.
Survivors include his wife, Laura Blackwell; daughter, Samantha Blackwell; sons, Jonathan Blackwell, Christopher Blackwell and Willie Blackwell; brothers, Charles Blackwell and Jose Ibarra; papaw to, Jaimean Blackwell, Janessa Blackwell and Greyson Blackwell; eleven nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at Wilkerson Funeral Home on Sunday, November 1, 2009 from 6:00 – 8:00 PM and other times at the home.

James Vincent DeJuneas
MATTHEWS
James Vincent DeJuneas, 69, died Friday (Oct. 30, 2009) at his home.
Funeral will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at St. Matthew Catholic Church with burial to follow in Forest Lawn East cemetery.
Born in Newark, N.J., he was a son of the late Vincent and Frances Petrich DeJuneas and married to Patricia M. DeJuneas. He was retired from the chemical industry.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include two sons, Jim DeJuneas and Thomas DeJuneas; one daughter, Patricia A. DeJuneas and five grandchildren.
Visitation will be Monday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home, 3700 Forest Lawn Drive, Matthews.

Avery Jones
WINGATE
Avery Jones, 69, died Wednesday (Oct. 28, 2009) at Piedmont Medical Center, Rock Hill, S.C.
Funeral will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Carvers Creek AME Zion Church in Council with burial to follow in the church cemetery.
Born in Council, Nov. 9, 1939, he was a daughter of the late Davis Jones and the late Ardelia Jones and married to Pearlette Bryant Jones.
Survivors, in addition to his wife, include three sons, Alvin Jones of Columbia, S.C., Rodney Jones of Charlotte and Craig Jones of Wingate; 10 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Public Viewing will be Monday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. at 426 Woodbery Drive, Wingate.
Leslie Latford
CONCORD
Leslie Ann “Skimp” Hart Latford, 74, of Concord, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, October 30, 2009 at CMC-Union in Monroe. She was the co-founder of the Grand National Racing Wives Auxiliary, which became known as the Women’s Auxiliary of Motorsports, Inc. in 2004.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 PM, Tuesday, November 3, at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord. Services will be held at 8 PM in the Hartsell Funeral Home Chapel.
The wife of the late Bob Latford, Mrs. Latford was instrumental in the design of the race souvenir programs at Charlotte and Atlanta speedways when her husband oversaw public relations for those facilities in the 1960s and ’70s. She was a retired school teacher in Cabarrus County, and she was described by their daughter as a “true racing wife,” who was heavily involved in all of the racing community’s activities.
Skimp was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend and person. She had many passions, including her beloved animals, art and gardening. Skimp will be greatly missed by all those who were fortunate enough to have known her.
A Vermont native, she was born on September 9, 1935, and was the daughter of the late Leslie Francis Hart and the late Evelyn Trellegan Hart.
She is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth “Betsy” Latford-York, of Monroe, and four grandchildren, Chad Latford-York, Trent Latford-York, Kendal Elizabeth Latford-York and Josh Shepherd, all of Monroe.

Hartsell Funeral Home-Concord will be serving the Latford family.

Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Heritage Funeral Home in Matthews, which is handling arrangements.
